Summer in Copenhagen
Curator’s statement

Copenhagen offers the perfect summer family vacation destination, where long Nordic days invite endless adventure. On our vacation, we biked together, took refreshing swims in the clean city harbor, and savored everything from fresh pastries to world-class street food. With the long daylight hours of midsummer, we explored Tivoli Gardens at twilight and took advantage of our unlimited access while being guests at the Nimb Hotel. With its blend of outdoor fun, world-class museums, relaxed atmosphere, and culinary delights, Copenhagen gave us memories we’ll cherish as a family forever.

Where to stay in Copenhagen

As someone who’s spent years curating unforgettable family getaways, I can confidently say Copenhagen delivers the ultimate summer escape. We based ourselves at the stunning Nimb Hotel, a Small Luxury Hotel tucked right inside the magical walls of Tivoli Gardens. From the comfort of our elegant family suite, we watched the park come to life each morning, and we kicked off our days with a world-class breakfast in the Nimb Brasserie. Best of all? Hotel guests enjoy unlimited access to Tivoli and all its rides—a perk we made full use of, late into those long, golden Nordic evenings.

Tivoli Gardens is stunning and full of classic amusement park charm.

To explore beyond Tivoli, we picked up the 72-hour Copenhagen Card, which gave us entry to dozens of attractions and unlimited use of public transportation. Our top museum picks? The Danish Design Museum, The National Museum, Experimentarium, and the iconic Louisiana Museum of Modern Art—each one perfect for curious minds of all ages.

Eating in Copenhagen is an adventure all its own. The city’s many food halls and street food hubs make it easy to please everyone in the family. We especially loved the laid-back, creative vibes at Reffen and the refined variety at Torvehallerne. And of course, no trip to Copenhagen is complete without sampling its legendary bakery scene—we couldn’t resist daily stops at Juno the Bakery, Skt. Peders Bageri, and Hart Bageri.

On the hottest day of our trip, we did as the locals do and jumped into the crystal-clear city harbor for a refreshing swim. Its blend of urban sophistication, family-friendly fun, and open-air living make Copenhagen one of my top summer picks for families.

Need to know

With so many gardens, castles, and museums to explore, it’s impossible to see it all in one visit, so don’t rush. Make sure to purchase the Copenhagen Card, which will definitely save you money. Leave time to linger in the parks, sample your way through the food halls, and—my favorite tip of all—experience the city by bike, just like the Danes do. It's the best way to soak in the beauty, pace, and charm of this unforgettable city.
