Eliza Jane, a unique hotel in New Orleans
Curator’s statement

The Eliza Jane hotel was selected for a weekend in New Orleans that included a theater performance at the Seanger Theater. Not only is the property located in a central location, but the staff is welcoming and friendly, and the hotel, a building that housed an old newspaper printing press, offers an experience different from the standard hotel.

The hotel is located on Magazine Street, centrally located in the heart of downtown New Orleans, Just steps away are attractions such as Harrah's Casino, Riverwalk outlets, New Orleans Cruise Port and world-famous attractions such as Bourbon Street and the World War II Museum.

The hotel is situated in a collection of 19th century warehouses which once housed the headquarters for the Daily Times Picayune newspaper, and is named after Eliza Jane Nicholson, the first woman publisher of a major metropolitan newspaper in the country. Because of the transformed structure, the property offers a "feeling" different from standard hotel. Wooden floors, high ceiling and exposed brick walls create a unique atmosphere. A courtyard with lush foliage, the Press Room Bar, and conversation style seating areas by the fireplace are just a few features that make you feel at home.

From the moment that you arrive, you are made to feel special. Being greeted by the Valet/Bell staff and escorted to the front desk is a special touch. Everyone we encountered were friendly and knowledgeable of the facility and the local area.

New Orleans is known for having unique hotel properties, but many of these facilities that have been converted into lodging offer small rooms. Not at Eliza Jane. The rooms were spacious and well appointed. Plush towels, high quality linens and super comfortable beds made the stay very relaxing.

I really can't say enough about this hotel. If you're in New Orleans, I hope you will check it out.

Need to Know

Eliza Jane is a perfect location for shopping, gambling, and have a night out at the clubs. If you're looking for a relaxing trip, take a book, curl up by the fire, and enjoy the jazz music that New Orleans is famous for.
