Aloha in Style: Four Seasons Maui Escape
Curator’s statement

Maui will always have a piece of my heart, and the Four Seasons makes it feel like a dream you never want to leave. I kayaked straight from the beach to swim alongside humpback whales in early March. When floating in the water, hearing their songs echo around me as if they were just a few feet away, was one of the most surreal and beautiful moments of my life. The spa is pure bliss, and their robes are so soft and cozy I had no choice but to buy one to bring the feeling home. Dinner at Spago, especially their legendary Peking duck, is a must, and the breakfast spread is a total highlight. You can’t beat lunch or dinner at Ferraro’s, where I spotted whales leaping in the distance during the day, and again at sunset, jumping across the horizon like it was part of the show.

Where to stay

The Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea is everything you’d hope for in a luxury Hawaiian escape and then some. Yes, Four Seasons White Lotus fans, you’ll recognize the vibe (minus the drama… hopefully).

Look at that sand, is it calling?

I’ve stayed here multiple times and know it well. It’s one of those rare resorts that keeps calling you back because it really does get everything right. Set on a beautiful stretch of Wailea Beach, the property effortlessly blends barefoot luxury with attentive, top-tier service. Whether you’re a couple looking for a romantic getaway, a family needing space to spread out, or a solo traveler chasing peace and wellness, this resort meets you exactly where you are.

What truly sets the Four Seasons apart is how it makes every moment feel elevated yet easy. The oceanfront pools (including an adults-only infinity pool with underwater music), complimentary cabanas, and the staff’s genuine warmth make it hard to leave the property. I especially love how active you can be without going far. Enjoy snorkeling, paddleboarding, and lounging just steps from the sand. The resort also offers all kinds of complimentary activities like outrigger canoe paddles, morning yoga, and even cultural classes like lei-making or ukulele lessons if you’re feeling curious. There’s just enough going on that you can join in or do absolutely nothing and feel great about it either way.

Do you see the whales jumping?

Spotting whales from the kayak, let's jump in

If you’re visiting between December and May, you’re in luck! This is prime whale-watching season. I literally saw whales jumping during both lunch and dinner. At one point, I swear one waved at me. They’re not shy. If you’re in the mood to explore a little, The Shops at Wailea are super close and worth a visit. You’ll find everything from high-end boutiques to fun island-style stores. I always love a stop at Tommy Bahama. It’s a must-stop, both for the shop and the restaurant upstairs, which has a great rooftop bar and seriously good fish tacos. If you’re craving a classic steakhouse dinner, Ruth’s Chris is right there, too. There’s also Lineage for creative Hawaiian cuisine and Monkeypod for casual vibes with live music and killer mai tais. It’s an easy way to mix up your evening plans without ever going far from the beach.

Time to unwind...

My favorite!

The Four Seasons Maui is perfect for clients looking for polished luxury with a laid-back Hawaiian soul. It’s great for milestone celebrations, honeymoons, and multigenerational trips, especially with their spacious suites and exceptional service. Whether your idea of paradise is sunrise yoga, a whale breaching in the distance, or a mai tai by the pool with your feet in the sand, this is one of those places that makes it all feel effortless.

Time for a mai tai or Miami vice?

Need to know

Dining is definitely part of the magic at the Four Seasons Maui. Spago, by Master Chef Wolfgang Puck, is a standout—not just for its Hawaiian-Californian fusion menu, but also for its Forbes Four-Star and AAA Four Diamond status and panoramic ocean views that steal the show. It’s perfect for a special night out (and yes, the Peking duck lives up to the hype). DUO Steak and Seafood is another favorite—great for a hearty dinner or their fantastic breakfast buffet with fresh island fruit and made-to-order everything. For something a little different, Kō serves up dishes inspired by the many cultures that have shaped Hawai’i, from Filipino adobo to Chinese oxtail soup. And if you’re craving sushi, Kōmo in the Shops at Wailea is a hidden gem with super fresh rolls and a sleek, modern vibe. Honestly, you can’t go wrong—just make those reservations early!

A few tips if you’re heading to the Four Seasons: book spa treatments and activities early—things like oceanside massages and sunrise outrigger canoe paddles fill up fast. Same for dinner reservations at Spago, Ferraro’s, DUO, and nearby favorites like Kō and Monkeypod. No need to overpack—they’ve thought of everything, from a beach bag waiting in your room to complimentary sunscreen, chilled water, snorkel gear, and pool toys. You just show up, settle in, and let the island do the rest.
