Ireland is one of my favorite countries for the rolling hills, charming cities, sheep and of course — castles! Did you know that Ireland is home to over 30,000 castles? Yes, you read that right! This article will go into my top six must-see Ireland Castles, where to stay while visiting and how to tour them.

Blarney Castle
Nestled in the heart of County Cork, Blarney Castle, dating back to the 15th century, is steeped in legend and allure. Its most famous feature, the Blarney Stone, is said to bestow eloquence on those who kiss it, making it a must-visit for those seeking the gift of gab.
Where to stay: Hayfield Manor Hotel. About a 15-minute drive from Blarney Castle, as well as an ideal spot to stay to explore the city of Cork. When booking with me, you can get perks and possible upgrades on arrival!
How to visit: Open all year long, usually from 9am – 5pm! You can book tickets ahead of time or on site. There are no timed slots. Easiest way to get here is by car, or a tour.
Dublin Castle
Situated in the bustling center of Ireland's capital, Dublin Castle boasts a history that spans over eight centuries, dating back to the 13th century. From its medieval tower to its majestic State Apartments, it stands as a symbol of Dublin's enduring legacy and hosts significant state events to this day.
Where to stay: The Westbury. Just 1km away from Dublin Castle! When booking with me, you can get perks and possible upgrades on arrival!
How to visit: Dublin Castle is open nearly every day, approximately 10am – 6pm. As it is a working building, some areas may be closed off with no notice. You can book a self-guided castle tour online in advance as there are only a limited number of tickets available at the castle. Not interested in a self-guided tour? You can choose to go on a guided tour when you arrive at your ticketed time.
Bunratty Castle
Located in County Clare, Bunratty Castle offers visitors a journey back in time to medieval Ireland. Dating back to the 15th century, this remarkably preserved fortress features furnished rooms and a charming folk park, providing a vivid glimpse into Ireland's past.
Where to stay: The Savoy Hotel Limerick. Located about a 20-minute drive away. The Savoy is a luxury hotel in the heart of Limerick. They have a restaurant, fitness center, spa and indoor pool. When you book with me, you can get special perks!
How to visit: Open daily 9am - 4pm. You can purchase tickets in advance online and arrive at any time during your time slot. Your admission ticket includes access to the castle as well as the 26-acre Bunratty Folk Park.
Ashford Castle
Originally built in 1228 and later transformed into a luxurious five-star hotel, Ashford Castle in County Mayo exudes timeless elegance and grandeur. Its historic interiors and sprawling grounds offer a captivating blend of history and luxury for visitors to explore.
Where to stay: Ashford Castle! This five-star hotel sits on 350 acres with 82 unique rooms. It doesn’t get much better than living your best royal life. When booking with me, you can get perks and possible upgrades on arrival!
How to visit: Nothing beats staying in the castle! While staying at Ashford Castle, you can participate in a multitude of activities on the grounds such as: falconry, fishing, lake cruising, traditional boating, horseback riding, kayaking, cycling, clay shooting, archery, golf, tennis, guided walks and so much more!
Rock of Cashel
Perched atop a limestone outcrop in County Tipperary, the Rock of Cashel is a majestic archaeological site dating back to the 4th century. Its medieval buildings, including a cathedral and round tower, stand as enduring symbols of Ireland's rich cultural heritage.
Where to stay: Cashel Palace Hotel. Just a 10-minute walk to the Rock of Cashel. This fairytale-like hotel was built in 1728 in the shadow of the Rock of Cashel. When you book with me, you can get perks such as complimentary daily breakfast and a VIP welcome.
How to visit: Open daily from approximately 9am - 4pm. Tickets must be purchased in advance for guided or self-tours. Visiting Cormac’s Chapel is by guide only, and a limited number of tickets are available at the site.
Malahide Castle
Set amid the verdant landscapes of County Dublin, Malahide Castle is a splendid example of medieval architecture with later additions from the 18th and 19th centuries. Surrounded by picturesque gardens, it offers guided tours of its historic interiors and hosts enchanting events, including medieval banquets, throughout the year.
Where to stay: The Grand Hotel Malahide. Located just about 2 km from Malahide Castle, right on the water. This hotel has free wi-fi, a restaurant with gorgeous views and an indoor pool.
How to visit: Tickets need to be purchased in advance. There are a variety of castle tours available here: guided gardens, whisky tour and taste, classic castle and gardens, as well as a family-friendly fairy trail.
Need to know
Most Ireland castle tours need to be booked ahead of time. You can always drive yourself there, but I think the easiest way is to go on a tour.
