Puerto Vallarta is one of those places where every day can feel completely different depending on how you choose to explore it. One of my favorite ways to experience it is out on the water with a charter fishing trip on the Dos Amigos boat, where the early morning ocean feels calm and full of possibility. There’s something special about being offshore as the sun rises, watching for dolphins, and trying your luck at catching something fresh while surrounded by endless blue.

Back on land, spending time walking the Malecon boardwalk is an experience I always come back to. The energy there is a mix of ocean views, local art, street performers, and small shops that make it feel alive in a really authentic way. It’s the kind of place where you can just stroll without a plan, grab a snack, and take in the rhythm of the city as the waves crash just steps away.

Puerto Vallarta is one of those destinations where a little planning goes a long way toward making the experience smoother and more enjoyable. First, try to balance your itinerary between adventure days and slower beach or pool days—activities like snorkeling, ATV rides, and fishing trips can be full mornings, so giving yourself downtime afterward makes the trip feel more relaxed instead of rushed. Early mornings are especially beautiful here, and they’re also the best time for things like fishing charters or quieter beach walks before the heat and crowds pick up.

Transportation is another thing worth planning ahead. While the Romantic Zone and Malecon are very walkable, you’ll likely want taxis, Uber, or pre-booked tours to reach places like jungle excursions or marina departures. It’s also helpful to confirm return transportation when booking activities so you’re not trying to arrange rides last minute after a long day.

For food, don’t be afraid to mix local spots with nicer oceanfront dinners. Some of the most memorable meals come from small taco stands or family-run restaurants tucked into side streets, while sunset dinners along the beach or marina create a completely different experience. Hydration and sun protection are also key—Puerto Vallarta sun is strong, even on cloudy days, especially if you’re spending time on boats or ATVs.

Finally, leave space in your plans for wandering. Some of the best moments in Puerto Vallarta come from unexpected discoveries—an art gallery off the Malecon, a quiet beach cove, or a café you didn’t plan on stopping at. It’s a destination that rewards slowing down just as much as it rewards adventure.
