Master the Art of Multigenerational (“Multigen”) Travel: A Family Reunion in Riviera Maya, Quintana Roo, Mexico

Curator’s statement
Family gatherings can be stressful, for hosts and guests alike. Who to invite, what to serve, when to start, where to gather and possibly why am I doing this? Here at Fora, while I take my advising seriously, you will never see me sweat, as I have mastered the art of multigenerational ("multigen") travel. With frequent flights to Cancún International Airport (CUN) from airports on the East and West coasts and the heartland, Riviera Maya, Quintana Roo, Mexico is easily accessible for family near and far. Approximately 45 minutes south of Cancún, Riviera Maya, analogous to the iconic Riverias of France and Italy, offers a juxtaposition of elements - freshwater lagoons meet saltwater seas, impenetrable rainforests meet wide-open shores and ancient civilizations meet contemporary amenities.

Transportation:
Allow me to elevate you and your family’s arrival and departure by reserving transportation from CUN to you and your family’s accommodation of choice in Riviera Maya, Quintana Roo, Mexico.
Accommodation:
All-Inclusives
Mexico is known for all-inclusives and Riviera Maya, Quintana Roo, Mexico is redefining the all-inclusive experience with properties breaking the stereotypes. If you are unfamiliar, all-inclusives charge a fixed price that includes most or all items offered. At a minimum, all-inclusives include accommodation, food (breakfast, lunch, dinner, and everything in between), drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and activities, for a fixed price. Mastering the art of splitting the check could be a guide in and of itself, especially with family. As all-inclusives are prepaid, there is no splitting the check meal after meal.
Hotels
Riviera Maya, Quintana Roo, Mexico is arguably leading the premiumization of the hotel experience with developments including Mayakoba, where Rosewood Mayakoba is located along with Banyan Tree Mayakoba, Fairmont Mayakoba and Andaz Mayakoba, and Kanai where Etéreo, Auberge Resorts Collection is located along with The St. Regis Kanai Resort, Riviera Maya, The Riviera Maya EDITION at Kanai and a fourth soon-to-be announced property. These complexes are gated and behind the gates lies not only security but also diverse ecosystems, with acres and acres of white sand beaches, mangroves and indigenous species of birds, fish and mammals.
Vacation Rentals
A vacation rental is the renting of a furnished apartment, condo, or house, as an alternative to a hotel. Vacation rentals can range from studio apartments to villas with all the amenities you would find in any hotel and then some (i.e. privacy, butlers, chefs, etc.) This option is ideal for families who want to be insulated and under one roof.
Excursions:
The beach is the obvious answer, but Riviera Maya, Quintana Roo, Mexico has other, possibly unexpected answers. For those in your family looking for a more cosmopolitan experience, the largest city in the region, Playa del Carmen’s Quinta Avenida or "Fifth Avenue" is dotted with cafes, restaurants, bars, shopping and even a tequila museum. Then, there are various beach clubs concentrated around Twelfth Street - Lido, Martina and Zenzi to name a few. If disconnecting is a priority, Riviera Maya, Quintana Roo, Mexico is located adjacent to the largest barrier reef in the Western Hemisphere, the Mesoamerican Reef. Alternatively, for land lovers, the Mayan ruins at Chichén Itzá, a UNESCO World Heritage Site is home to one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, El Castillo, a step-pyramid with 365 steps, one for each day of the solar year. (Unfortunately, climbing the steps is not permitted.)
