Where to Stay in Amelia Island
Curator’s statement

Amelia Island is set on the coast of northern Florida, just south of Georgia. It’s full of small-town charm, beautiful beaches, historic features, golf courses and expansive greenery. There are two main resorts on Amelia Island: the Ritz-Carlton Amelia Island and the Omni Amelia Island Resort. I had the opportunity to tour both properties in December 2024. Here’s an overview of what each property has to offer.

The Ritz-Carlton Amelia Island:

The Ritz-Carlton Amelia Island brings 5-star luxury to the already charming and historic island.

The property was fully renovated in 2021, and the modern finishes add to the high-end charm. The renovation also included a brand new fitness center, featuring everything from Peloton bikes to onsite wellness classes. The primary fine-dining restaurant on the property, Salt, was renovated even more recently in late 2024. Its fresh decor accompanies its decades-long reputation for fantastic cuisine and ambiance. In addition to Salt, the resort offers six other dining options, including poolside, sit-down, and grab-and-go styles.

The spa is serene and beautiful. It features 26 treatment rooms and an adult-only pool that spa guests can lounge at all day. Activities at the Ritz-Carlton range from enjoying the heated pool, sitting in the beach loungers, joining in watersports like kayaking or stand-up paddle boarding, playing at the 18-hole golf course, relaxing by the fire pits or beyond. Afterwards, guests can relax in their rooms or on their private balconies with stunning views of the Atlantic.

One of the best features of the Ritz-Carlton Amelia Island is its high-quality service and sense of luxury throughout the resort. It’s the perfect place to visit to feel pampered and have a serene escape. It’s welcoming to families, or ideal for a romantic getaway.

Omni Amelia Island Resort:

The Omni Amelia Island Resort is a beautiful property featuring rooms, villas, pools, beach, golf and onsite dining and activities. It’s ideal for groups of travelers, since it offers something for everyone. Part of the group can relax by the pool, while others enjoy the spa or golf, and everyone can meet up for dinner together. Many rooms offer a view of the Atlantic Ocean, and the resort also features villa properties that can accommodate larger groups or families.

The property is full of endless dining options, leisure activities, shops and fitness offerings. There are 13 onsite restaurants, ranging from the high-end Bob’s Steak & Chophouse to the casual Natural Slice pizza made with salt-water hand-tossed dough. Activities keep guests of all types busy, from mini-golf to Amelia’s Wheels, where guests can rent Segways, Island Hoppers or bicycles. There are two 18-hole golf courses on property, as well as a 10-hole short course. Beyond that, guests can play tennis, pickleball or enjoy the multiple fitness centers. And of course, take advantage of the scenic beach with lounge chairs, or the two heated resort pools.

The resort covers 1,350 acres of green, lush coastal land. With its large size, it’s still easy to get around by walking or taking the trams that drive throughout the property. With each corner you turn, you’ll uncover something unique. Such as the Sprouting Project, which is a greenhouse nestled in the onsite woods growing herbs and vegetables that are incorporated into the cuisine.

The Omni Amelia Island is planning renovations beginning at the end of 2025, so guests can expect to enjoy updates to guest rooms, spa facilities, restaurants and more.

Both the Ritz-Carlton Amelia Island and the Omni Amelia Island Resort are fantastic, and they each have their own highlights and features.
