Curator’s statement
Key West holds a special place in my heart as a local Miami resident who spends many long weekends each year soaking up its charm. My husband and I are drawn to the island’s welcoming people, lively energy, and the way every visit feels like an instant escape from the everyday. There’s truly something for everyone here, whether you’re into great food, live music, or just relaxing by the water. Best of all, it’s wonderfully dog-friendly. Our little pup joins us on every trip, making each Key West getaway even more special.

Key West is a feast for the senses—not just for its turquoise waters, pastel streets, and legendary sunsets, but for its vibrant culinary scene. From sunrise breakfasts under swaying palms to candlelit dinners with harbor views, the island offers flavors as colorful as its sunsets. Whether you’re here for a romantic getaway, a foodie adventure, or simply to savor the laid-back island lifestyle, Key West’s restaurants and bars deliver unforgettable experiences.
Start the day right: Key West breakfast favorites
Mornings in Key West call for bold flavors and breezy settings. Begin your day with an authentic Cuban coffee and a Key Wester breakfast sandwich from Cuban Queen Coffee, or indulge in sweet or savory crepes at The Banana Cafe, a French bistro with a Caribbean twist. For something iconic, head to Blue Heaven, where Caribbean-inspired breakfast plates come with a side of live roosters and a whimsical courtyard. If you prefer a refined start, Cafe Marquesa, located in The Marquesa Hotel, serves elegant breakfasts made with fresh, local ingredients.

The best way to start every morning: an iced cuban coffee from The Cuban Coffee Queen. Great photo backdrop, too!

Banana Cafe is a must. The inside-out French Benedict crepe with key lime hollandaise is my personal fav!
Midday bites: lunch with island flair
When midday rolls around, Key West serves up fresh seafood and tropical flavors. Half Shell Raw Bar is famous for its conch fritters—some of the best in the Florida Keys—alongside oysters, fish and chips, and waterfront views. Kaya Island Eats offers a fun fusion of Polynesian and Caribbean flavors, while Blue Heaven keeps the island vibe going with a colorful setting and bold dishes. For a quick bite and a taste of local tradition, Kermit’s Key Lime Shop serves light sandwiches, salads, and of course, their legendary key lime pie.
Evening indulgence: dinner hot spots
Key West evenings are made for great food and ocean breezes. Cafe Marquesa is a top choice for fine dining, offering coastal cuisine and an intimate atmosphere. Seafood lovers will be drawn to The Little Pearl, a hidden gem with an exceptional chef’s tasting menu, or Hot Tin Roof, which pairs harbor views with creative seafood dishes. For steak aficionados, Prime 951 Steakhouse delivers premium cuts in an upscale marina setting, while The Flaming Buoy Filet Co. charms with inventive seafood creations like lobster mac and cheese.
Raise a glass: Key West’s iconic bars
When the sun dips below the horizon, Key West’s bar scene comes alive. Green Parrot Bar, open since 1890, offers a lively, local atmosphere with live music. History buffs will enjoy Capt. Tony’s Saloon, an island legend with a colorful past, while cocktail lovers can savor artfully crafted drinks at Bagatelle during happy hour. For a refined setting, the Hot Tin Roof Lounge is perfect for a pre-dinner or late-night drink with a view. And if you’re wandering Duval Street, Rick’s Bar keeps the energy high well into the night.
From morning coffee to last-call cocktails, Key West is a culinary playground with something for every taste. The island’s dining scene blends fresh seafood, global flavors, and island charm into an experience you’ll savor long after your trip ends. As your travel concierge, I can create a custom Key West itinerary—complete with reservations at these must-visit restaurants—so you can relax, indulge, and fall in love with the flavors of the island.
Need to know
Pack your “island time” mindset. In Key West, nobody’s in a rush (except maybe the chickens crossing the street), so slow down, smile, and enjoy the ride.
Bring the pup! This island is dog-friendly—many bars, cafés, and even boat tours welcome four-legged friends with open arms (and water bowls).
Reserve, reserve, reserve. Especially in peak season, the best dinner spots fill up fast—book ahead so you don’t have to battle hangry vacationers for a table.
Sunscreen is non-negotiable. That tropical sun doesn’t play around. Bonus points if you match your SPF to your margarita’s lime wedge for full island style.
Chase the sunset, but plan your spot early. Whether you’re at Mallory Square with street performers or sipping cocktails by the harbor, prime sunset seats are a hot commodity.
Live like a local. Skip the car, rent a bike or golf cart, and cruise the streets at your own pace—it’s the best way to stumble on hidden gems (and say hi to the roosters).
