From the moment the staff opened the door to our car to the moment they closed it when our stay was over, I knew I had made the right choice for our stay in Madrid.
The hotel itself, built in 1915 by José María Mendoza Ussía, exudes distinct elegance. The rooms boast high ceilings, modern amenities, huge windows overlooking the city, and mattresses so comfortable that you have to force yourself to get out of bed in the morning.

But make sure you do, because breakfast is waiting for you—a delicious selection of coffees, fresh-pressed juices, and a variety of foods, allowing you to try something different every morning. All of this is served in a dining area with a glass ceiling, letting in all that amazing Spanish sunshine.

While you’re admiring the hotel’s stunning features, including the original working elevator and a beautiful marble staircase decorated with original stained glass windows, don’t forget to book your spa appointment. This full-service spa is the perfect place to unwind after a day exploring Madrid.

The neighborhood around the hotel is absolutely charming, resembling a small village in Spain rather than a bustling city center. Just steps away from The Urso is Mercado de Bareló, which houses over 100 traditional food stalls across three floors, offering everything from meats to fruit to flowers. There are also numerous eateries, cafés, and takeaway counters. From the moment the staff opened the car door upon arrival to when they closed it at the end of your stay, their hospitality is outstanding.

For some local shopping, walk to Casa González & Gonzáles, a small boutique home-goods store nearby. You’ll find beautiful items like handmade brooms, wooden utensils, reusable tote bags, and ostrich feather dusters—my daily obsession, that fits perfectly into your luggage. The shop is small but unique, and you’re sure to find something special to take home, especially the candles, which are always a great choice.

Celso Y Manolo is a restaurant that the concierge recommended—we wanted something that locals love and makes you feel like part of the community, and it did not disappoint. The food is incredible, and the service is exceptional—definitely order at least two desserts! The neighborhood was lovely, and it felt like you were in a little village in Spain rather than in the middle of the capital city.

Need to know
Make sure you eat at the in-house restaurant Casa Felisa. They serve authentic Spanish cuisine and have an incredible wine selection. This hotel is ideal for a girls’ trip, a romantic weekend away with your partner, or a solo escape to spoil yourself.
