Where to stay in New York City
There is perhaps no neighborhood in New York City more recognizable than Times Square. Millions of visitors arrive each year seeking Broadway performances, world-famous landmarks, and the unmistakable energy that defines Manhattan. While countless hotels place guests in the center of the action, few successfully create a true escape from it. The Renaissance New York Times Square Hotel accomplishes exactly that.
I stayed at the hotel from July 1–6, 2026, during one of New York City’s busiest travel periods—the Fourth of July holiday. Located at the northern end of Times Square at 7th Avenue and West 48th Street, the property occupies an ideal location that feels connected to everything while remaining surprisingly manageable. Broadway theaters, Rockefeller Center, Fifth Avenue shopping, Bryant Park, Central Park, and multiple subway stations are all within easy walking distance, allowing guests to explore the city effortlessly without constantly relying on taxis. Nearby subway access includes the 49th Street Station (N, R, W), 50th Street Station (1), and the 47–50th Streets–Rockefeller Center Station (B, D, F, M), making nearly every neighborhood in Manhattan easily accessible.

Main lobby
The guest experience begins with a discreet entrance along Seventh Avenue. After checking in on the ground floor, guests ascend to the hotel’s elevated lobby—a welcoming space overlooking Times Square that immediately feels removed from the crowds below. Here, you’ll find the concierge desk, the stylish Bowtie Bar, Bowtie Bar Restaurant, and The Market, a convenient café serving coffee, pastries, sandwiches, and grab-and-go selections. The elevated lobby creates an inviting atmosphere where guests can pause, unwind, or enjoy sweeping city views before beginning another day of sightseeing.

Standard King Room
One of the hotel's greatest surprises is the guest room itself. Space is one of Manhattan’s greatest luxuries, and the Renaissance delivers more than expected. My King Guest Room offered generous square footage rarely found in Times Square, complete with a comfortable chaise lounge, coffee table, dedicated workspace, and room to truly settle in rather than simply sleep. The bathroom was equally spacious, featuring ample counter space and premium Kevin Murphy bath amenities that elevated the daily routine. While robes and slippers are not provided, the room’s size and comfort make packing a pair worthwhile.

Shower
For future guests, I strongly recommend requesting a room on the Broadway-facing side of the hotel. Although the Times Square-facing rooms offer iconic views, the Broadway side rewards guests with something equally valuable—quiet. Despite visiting during one of the busiest holiday weeks of the year, my room remained remarkably peaceful. The hotel’s sound insulation effectively muted the constant sirens, street performers, and crowds below, creating a calm retreat after long days exploring Manhattan.

Breakfast buffet
The property also shows encouraging signs of continued investment. The fitness center on the fourth floor has been beautifully refreshed with modern equipment, while several public spaces and corridors have received tasteful updates that give the hotel a contemporary feel. Although portions of the guest room hallways still reflect the building’s original character, the overall presentation is polished, impeccably maintained, and exceptionally clean.

Gym
What ultimately distinguishes this hotel, however, is its people. Every interaction with the staff reflected genuine hospitality delivered with efficiency and professionalism. Check-in remained consistently quick despite holiday crowds, and a dedicated security presence at the entrance provided an added sense of comfort throughout my stay. When an unexpected flight delay required extending my reservation, the reservations team handled everything with remarkable ease, allowing me to keep my original extended-stay rate with nothing more than a brief phone call. It’s this level of thoughtful service that transforms a convenient hotel into one I would confidently recommend to my own clients.

Concierge area
While Bowtie Bar Restaurant and The Market offer excellent on-site dining options, one of the hotel’s greatest luxuries is its proximity to New York City’s incredible culinary scene. Within minutes, guests can find everything from Michelin-recognized dining to neighborhood ramen shops, artisan coffee, and some of the city’s most beloved Chinatown institutions. The Renaissance serves as the perfect home base for travelers who want to experience New York through its neighborhoods, one exceptional meal at a time.
Need to know
The Renaissance New York Times Square Hotel is an excellent choice for travelers who want to be close to Broadway, Rockefeller Center, Fifth Avenue shopping, and Midtown’s major attractions while still having a comfortable place to recharge. I would confidently recommend it to first-time visitors, couples, families, business travelers, and anyone looking for a well-located Marriott property with consistently professional service.
The location makes exploring Manhattan easy on foot or by subway. I especially enjoyed starting the day with coffee or matcha from Blank Street Coffee and returning in the evening to a room that felt noticeably quieter than the surrounding Times Square area.
For dining, I recommend venturing beyond the immediate tourist corridor. Ichiran Ramen on West 49th Street is a favorite for its rich tonkotsu broth and signature private dining booths. A short subway ride brings you to Chelsea Market, where Ayada Thai serves one of the city's standout Thai meals—don't miss the Michelin-recognized mango sticky rice. If you're exploring Chinatown, make time for Nuan Xin Rice Roll for freshly prepared Cantonese rice rolls before stopping at Vanessa's Dumpling House, one of New York's legendary neighborhood institutions for affordable handmade dumplings.
My best tip is to request a Broadway-facing room. While Times Square views are exciting, the Broadway side is significantly quieter and made the overall stay feel far more restful.
