Curator’s statement
This was our second international trip as a family with a two kids. One was almost 2 years old and another almost 5 years old. We have been to the Grand Velas in Los Cabos and really enjoyed our time there, so we planned a trip to Riveria Maya. This time, we were going to celebrate my husband’s birthday.

Our trip took place in April. The weather was great when we stayed there, and we only got rain on the first day when we landed. The last day was quite windy, but, overall, it was hot and sunny.
We flew into Cancún, and while we had to pay for transportation, it was private and also on time. The drive itself is about 45 minutes. The resort is safe and secured, and we stayed Monday to Saturday.

Once we arrived, we were greeted with refreshments and our luggage was sent to our rooms. I like how they take care of payments up front so you don’t have to worry about anything.
The room was super spacious, and while it was quite a busy season and we didn’t get all the toddler amenities, they did come the second day. I had also arranged a surprise balloon bundle for my husband as we were celebrating this 40th birthday. Because my younger child was getting older, I arranged for Babyquip to bring in a full-size crib. You just have to contact the concierge ahead of time to inform them of the driver’s information, and everything was all set up for me when we got to our room. The room didn't have a swim-up pool, but it did have a nice small plunge pool that was big enough for all four of us.

The food was amazing and very similar to Grand Velas Los Cabos. I would say we slightly preferred the food at Los Cabos, but we did do the Michelin-starred restaurant, and even hired a babysitter to watch our two little ones. I literally ordered all the desserts at all the restaurants we visited!
There are two kids' club—one for younger and older kids—and I actually utilized it. I stayed with my child two of the days and dropped her off during the other two days while my husband and I were getting spa treatments. They even had snacks there, so that was great.
We went to the beach one day, and that was enough sand for us. We brought our own toys and the kids enjoyed playing in the ocean. The pool was hard to beat and we went to the pool the rest of the stay.

All in all, I recommend Grand Velas Riveria Maya for families. The kids loved the pool and we loved how easy it was to grab food at the pool and the beach. Literally, food was at our fingertips!
