Golden Rock Inn—Nevis
Golden Rock Inn is a historic and intimate boutique retreat perched about 1,000 feet above sea level on the lush slopes of Nevis Peak, owned by artists Helen and Brice Marden. The property was originally a sugar plantation dating back to the early 1800s, and it still preserves many of its historic structures, including the 1811 sugar mill, which has been converted into the inn’s premier suite and can accommodate up to four guests.
Set across 40 acres of meticulously landscaped gardens featuring more than 50 species of palms, the inn offers 11 cottages, including hillside cottages with panoramic views, the entry-level garden cottage, the romantic Paradise Cottage junior suite, and the historic mill duplex. Each cottage reflects a bohemian Caribbean aesthetic, with hand-carved furniture, local textiles, wood-beamed ceilings, open-air verandas, and natural ventilation via ceiling and portable fans, providing simple yet elegant comfort that embraces the island’s breezes and tropical climate.
The property’s gardens and terraces are a highlight, with winding stone paths, flowering shrubs, and tropical flora creating a serene, immersive experience. Guests can participate in a complimentary garden tour led by the head gardener, learning about the unique plant species and the estate’s historic layout.

The 50-foot pool, originally a cistern, offers a refreshing retreat, while the lounge—formerly a plantation hospital—provides shaded seating, comfortable gathering spaces, and a relaxed atmosphere for unwinding. Wildlife is a constant presence, with vervet monkeys, hummingbirds, and other local creatures often appearing throughout the grounds.
Dining at Golden Rock Inn is a relaxed yet refined affair, centered around the signature restaurant, The Rocks, which serves Caribbean-inspired cuisine made with fresh, local ingredients. Meals are often enjoyed alfresco on stone terraces overlooking the gardens, combining stunning natural surroundings with intimate, artful dining.

Guests can also request rum tastings, book island tours, or simply relax in the gardens and lounge areas, taking in the tranquility and seclusion of this elevated retreat. While small and private, the inn offers an authentic and immersive experience, blending history, art, and tropical nature in a way that is uniquely Nevisian.
Golden Rock Inn is particularly favored by couples seeking a romantic escape, but it also appeals to solo travelers desiring a peaceful, restorative retreat. Its combination of historic charm, lush gardens, secluded location, artistic flair, and warm hospitality creates a rare sense of timeless tranquility. From its historic sugar mill suite to the intimate dining at The Rocks, the winding garden paths, and the serene pool, Golden Rock Inn captures the essence of Nevis—an island of beauty, history, and serenity—making it one of the most enchanting and memorable places to stay in the Caribbean.

Need to know
No direct beach access: Golden Rock Inn is perched high on Nevis Peak, so a short drive is needed to reach the island’s beaches.
Rugged terrain: The gardens and pathways feature steps, hills, and stone paths, which may be challenging for guests with mobility issues.
Air cooling only: Rooms do not have air conditioning—cottages rely on ceiling fans and natural breezes for comfort.
