Curator’s statement
I highly recommend staying at Auberge du Vieux-Port when visiting Montreal, especially during a busy weekend like the Canada Grand Prix. Its prime location in the Old Port puts you within easy walking distance to excellent restaurants, green spaces, and convenient transit options like the river shuttle and metro. The hotel itself is charming, well-run, and versatile—perfect for couples, families, or a special occasion getaway. Plus, the on-site dining options are far better than the website or reviews let on!

The Auberge du Vieux-Port offers the most convenient location in Montreal’s Old Port, with easy walking access to top dining, parks, and transit. But its true value goes beyond location—it combines historic charm, modern accessibility, and thoughtful on-site dining right in the heart of the action.
From the street, Auberge du Vieux-Port looks like a charming historic building—easy to pass by without realizing just how special it is inside. But step through the doors and you’ll find a cozy, welcoming lobby that instantly sets the tone for a warm and relaxing stay. I had originally booked a Deluxe Room, but when it turned out to be too snug for a rollaway bed, I was upgraded to a Superior King on the fourth floor, which offered a fantastic view and just enough elevation to escape the street noise.

Thanks to the Fora network, we were greeted with fun welcome amenities—including wine, charcuterie, and treats—that made our arrival feel extra celebratory. During the Canada Grand Prix race weekend, the hotel also provided complimentary coffee throughout the day and afternoon refreshments in the lobby. I particularly enjoyed the bottled water, Red Bull, and a surprising (and delightful) offering of Moët and Chandon with chocolates.

Gaspar Brasserie, the hotel’s main-floor restaurant, serves classic French dishes in a polished yet unstuffy setting. It’s the perfect spot for a relaxed, high-quality meal without needing to venture far, and it has indoor and outdoor dining. The wine list and creative French dishes were impressive.
The Terrasse on the top floor of Auberge du Vieux-Port is a must-visit, especially at sunset. Be sure to make reservations in advance, as it’s a very popular spot. While the menu is more limited than Gaspar downstairs, the real draw here is the breathtaking panoramic view of the river and city skyline. I thoroughly enjoyed our sunset dinner—there’s something truly special about dining with a million-dollar view that makes the experience unforgettable.
Need to know
My stay at Auberge du Vieux-Port was truly seamless. Everyone I encountered, from the front desk and reservations team to the food service staff, was exceptionally professional and attentive. Even during the busy Grand Prix weekend, they went above and beyond to honor my requests for early check-in, late check-out, a rollaway bed, and thoughtful, unexpected welcome amenities like wine and treats. I highly recommend this hotel to my clients, no matter the reason for their visit to Montreal.
There is no pool or gym, in case that makes a difference, but the hotel is right across the street from running and biking paths.
