Site Review: Four Seasons Resort & Residences “Modern Hacienda” at Cabo del Sol
Curator’s statement

Cabo del Sol has long been an area favorite of mine. Located on the Golden Corridor that connects Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo is a resort enclave featuring the finest in Baja lifestyle experiences. Perched above the Sea of Cortez, this stunning stretch is known for its pristine beaches and natural landscape. You can literally see whales and Mobula rays breaching the blue ocean waves from your lounge chairs.

Within the enchanting environment that is Cabo Del Sol, The Four Seasons has expertly blended the magic of Mexico with luxurious offerings, world-class amenities, spectacular ocean views, one of the area’s rare swimmable beaches, and direct access to the private Jack Nicklaus–designed Cove Club golf course.

Once you’re admitted through a secure gate, the road ambles up to a modern Mexican hacienda giving way to “La Plaza,” a cobblestone square featuring:

  • The Mandala Retail Boutique, offering exquisite clothing and accessories sourced by Mexican makers.

  • The Mercado, showcasing a highly curated selection of artisanal local food and beverages.

  • The engaging El Tellar Art Studio, which holds beautiful Mexican art pieces and hosts events for those who wish to create.

Upon my arrival, I was presented with a refreshing cold towel and a ginger tea to cool off from the elements. The staff was warm and helpful, making me feel at home—in keeping with the Four Seasons’ Famiglia brand concept.

Shortly after my greeting, I was gifted with a welcome experience that is given to guests upon checking into the resort. According to Mexican tradition and lore, the pajareros is a profession passed down through families, where individuals, especially women, capture and keep songbirds. The practice has involved traditional ecological knowledge and a focus on conservation through sustainable harvesting methods. These keepers of birds add to cultural and religious significance, as birds hold special meaning as symbols of communication, rebirth, and good luck. I was asked to retrieve a note from a symbolic birdcage with a special fortune told on its paper. This set the tone for a magical experience connecting me to the land, art, and serenity of the moment.

On my walking tour, I was struck by the vastness of the property, which gives guests a secure feeling enveloped by the utmost care, service, and privacy. There is also an emphasis on sustainability in design and practice, which adds to the elegant simplicity of the space.

Reminiscent of a Mediterranean hideaway, the property’s palette has a creamy, airy feel, dotted with rich earth tones, giving a quiet luxury vibe. At once comfortable and well-appointed, the architecture has a contemporary feel fitting for its 96 guest rooms, including 21 suites and six villas. Aligned in an amphitheater layout in concert with the shore, accommodations have unencumbered views of the sea. Private plunge pools, outdoor showers, and expansive terraces are splashed across the landscape, offering amazing dining options including:

  • Cayao, a Nikkei restaurant by Richard Sandoval.

  • Coraluz, a specialty pool bar and grill.

  • Soro, a rooftop stargazing bar above the pool.

Guests can work out with a window to the ocean at the state-of-the-art fitness center designed by Harley Pasternak or partake in tranquil treatments offered at the Tierra Mar Spa. The resort is also family-friendly, with activities for all ages including:

  • A complimentary Four Seasons Kids for All Seasons program and facility.

  • An adventurous teen activity center.

  • Both family-friendly and adults-only pools and cabanas.
