Curator’s statement
The independently owned Monument Hotel captures everything travelers love about Barcelona: timeless architecture, forward-thinking design, and genuine hospitality. Located on the glamorous Passeig de Gràcia, this 19th-century mansion was once the private residence of an influential Catalan family who relocated from the Gothic Quarter. Reimagined in 2016, the property artfully blends original brick walls, a grand central staircase, and hand-painted tilework from the surrounding neighborhood with sleek, contemporary finishes. The result feels both historic and effortlessly modern—a rare find among Barcelona’s luxury hotels.

Rooms & amenities
The Monument offers 84 rooms, ranging from Deluxe to Penthouse Suites. Many include balconies overlooking Passeig de Gràcia or charming interior courtyards.
We stayed in a Junior Suite Barcelona, which faced Mallorca Street and featured thoughtful touches like a dual-vanity bathroom, separate tub and rainfall shower, Diptyque bath products, and plush robes and slippers. The “starry light” feature above the bed added a soft, romantic glow at night.
Design throughout is organic modern—warm woods, original brick, and soft lighting—while the bathrooms integrate Barcelona’s signature design aesthetic in a luxurious yet practical way. Complimentary soft drinks, attentive housekeeping, and little conveniences make the stay feel effortless.
Families and pet owners are well cared for, too: connecting rooms and rollaway beds make multi-generational travel easy, and pups are welcomed with a cozy dog bed and bowls upon arrival.

Location
L’Eixample is Barcelona’s architectural and cultural heart—a vibrant, safe, and walkable neighborhood lined with boutiques, cafés, and iconic landmarks. From the hotel, you can reach Casa Batlló and La Pedrera (Casa Milà), UNESCO sites designed by Gaudí, in just minutes. Both are worth exploring—or, for a twist, book an evening tour to see Gaudí’s creations beautifully illuminated.
The area’s central location also provides easy access to the Gothic Quarter, Sagrada Família, and the city’s best shopping.

Food & drink
Dining at The Monument is a true highlight. Start your day with the exceptional breakfast on the rooftop, featuring a made-to-order menu alongside a generous continental spread—house-baked pastries, local cheeses, yogurts, and fresh fruit.
In the afternoon, head to the rooftop bar and restaurant, Verbena, for light, Mediterranean-inspired lunches and refreshing cocktails beneath the sun. The views over L’Eixample are stunning, and the calm terrace provides a welcome break from the buzz of the city below.
In the evening, enjoy a nightcap in the lobby bar or indulge at Lasarte, the hotel’s three-Michelin-starred restaurant. It’s a destination in itself and one of Barcelona’s most celebrated dining rooms.

Service & special touches
Though the façade might appear grand, the staff are remarkably warm and welcoming from the moment you arrive. Service is polished and professional without ever feeling pretentious.
For families, the hotel offers charming details like a kids’ activity book, complete with games and a “diploma” reward once finished. Workshops are also available to keep younger travelers entertained while parents relax.
Despite its central location, the rooms are exceptionally soundproofed, creating a quiet sanctuary in the heart of the city.
