Curator’s statement
Aman has become one of the most respected names in hospitality—not because of size, but because of its philosophy. Since opening its first resort in 1988, the brand has focused on privacy, space, and an almost invisible style of service. Every Aman property looks different, but the approach is the same: natural materials, soft architecture, and a feeling that the resort is part of its location, not placed on top of it. For many travelers, staying at an Aman isn’t just a hotel choice. It’s a way of traveling that prioritizes peace, privacy, and simplicity at the highest level.

Where it is & what it feels like
Set just outside the buzz of the medina, Amanjena is intentionally removed from the hustle and bustle of Marrakech. The name translates to “peaceful paradise,” and the property lives up to that promise through symmetry, special water features, and terracotta-toned pavilions inspired by traditional Moroccan architecture. It doesn’t try to compete with the chaos of the city; it offers an alternative to it.

Service that genuinely notices you
One of the things I loved most was the attentiveness of the team. Everyone addressed us by our first name, and let me tell you, pronouncing my Dutch husband's name correctly was nothing short of impressive. In a resort of this size, remembering every guest’s name (including those you may not even serve directly) requires serious internal communication and effort. It never felt forced. It felt considered.

Welcome amenity
We were celebrating our anniversary, and the team acknowledged it in a way that felt generous but not theatrical: romantic decoration in the pavilion, a bottle of champagne, and a two-category upgrade that made the stay feel even more special.
The overall service style was seamless. Requests were handled quickly, laundry returned efficiently, and everything happened without follow-ups or reminders. It’s that quiet operational excellence Aman is known for—nothing dramatic, just consistently smooth.

Evening views
Food that leaves a lasting impression
Breakfast was abundant without being overwhelming. A wide choice of à la carte dishes, fresh pastries, fruit, and local touches.
The biggest surprise for me was the Italian restaurant on site. From a culinary perspective, it was one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. Amanjena also has a traditional Moroccan restaurant that was nice for the atmosphere—although the traditional music can be a bit overwhelming at times, so if you have to choose, I suggest you prioritize their Italian one, Arva.

Experiences beyond the property
While Amanjena itself encourages you to slow down, the activity offering is extensive. We chose a private guided hike in the Atlas Mountains. The organization was smooth, and the guide was very knowledgeable.

Who Amanjena is for
Amanjena is ideal for travelers who want Marrakech without being in the middle of it. For those who value space over scene, calm over constant stimulation, and service that anticipates rather than performs. It works particularly well for special occasions: anniversaries, milestone birthdays, or simply trips where privacy matters. It’s not the place for high energy or social buzz. It’s a place for mornings that stretch, afternoons by still water, and evenings that feel unhurried. And ultimately, that’s very much the Aman way.

Need to know
A small miss
If I’m being completely honest, there was one aspect that slightly disrupted the otherwise calm atmosphere.
The daytime restaurant with the pizza oven is positioned on the far end of the main pool and is open-air. While the pool itself is large and spacious, the food scents from the oven were quite noticeable across the pool area, especially in the afternoon.
For a brand that is so focused on sensory calm—visual symmetry, quiet service, spatial generosity—the stronger food scent felt slightly out of sync with the otherwise serene pool environment. It’s not a deal-breaker, but it stood out because everything else is so carefully controlled.
