Why Sundance Mountain Resort Is a Year-Round Destination

The Sundance campus is about 45 minutes from Salt Lake City Airport, through the canyons of Provo. I call it a campus because that’s how it feels: sheltered from everything else, in the best possible way. The newly opened Inn at Sundance sets the stage. It houses 60+ rooms and suites, and provides the most elevated stay on the property. Cottages and mountain homes round out the lodging options, offering unique spaces in the thick of nature that range from studios to multi-bedroom units.

In March, the remaining snow was dwindling, but skiers and snowboarders alike were taking advantage of unseasonably warm temps for their last-chance runs. My short trip to Sundance left a big impression, and I ended up booking a return visit for a long weekend in July. This time, I brought my husband along, and we had so much fun exploring the lineup of summer activities. A two-hour zipline adventure over the mountains got our blood flowing with views and thrills. When it was time to relax, we enjoyed services at the peaceful spa and time at The Springs, a private space available only to overnight guests, which features three soaking pools, a sauna, and a cold-plunge shower. We spent our last night enjoying music and storytelling at the outdoor amphitheater for Sundance’s Summer Bluebird Cafe Concert Series.

Foodies needn’t worry, as the food and beverage program is top-notch. Several fast-casual dining outlets serve up quick meals, while the Owl Bar, Foundry Grill, and Tree Room offer seated dining experiences with excellent cuisine and inventive beverages for drinkers and non-drinkers alike.
