Curator’s statement
The Barnett is a boutique hotel with a rooftop pool that efficiently pairs style with functionality. Housed in an Art Deco building dating back to 1928, the building was converted into the Ace Hotel in 2016 and joined the Hyatt family in 2024 as part of the JdV (joie de vivre) collection. Its location in New Orleans’ Warehouse District is a standout: You’re within walking distance of nearly every major neighborhood, with the iconic St. Charles streetcar and key bus lines right outside. For travelers who prioritize exploring the city over lingering in their room, The Barnett delivers a well-placed home base with effortless access to everything New Orleans does best.

The property
With stylish workspaces, plenty of outlets for recharging, and easy-access coffee outposts and restaurants, The Barnett’s former life as the Ace Hotel still echoes throughout the building. The art is bold, the couches are oversized and inviting, and the rooftop pool always felt like it was gearing up for the next private party.

All Good Cafe: Coffee and light fare like muffins, sandwiches, and other grab-and-go items, served until 4 pm. The casual seating area makes it an easy stop before heading out for the day.

Brutto Americano: The Barnett’s signature restaurant, offering a lively atmosphere and live jazz on Friday nights during peak season.

High-Five: The rooftop pool lounge, serving all the crowd-pleasing poolside classics you’d expect in New Orleans’ warm weather months.
Seaworthy: Oyster bar and seafood restaurant with coastal soul and a Southern backbone.
The rooms
The hotel offers a generous number of rooms with two double or queen beds, making it ideal for families and groups. We had two standard double rooms each with a sparse yet artful retro vibe, complete with Smeg fridges and vintage-style record players. The shower and toilet were separate from the sink area—a huge plus when sharing a room—and we appreciated the high-quality amenities and plush bathrobes.

Need to know
Before booking any hotel in New Orleans, it’s worth double-checking the city’s event calendar and calling the property directly. Major conferences, festivals, and private events can temporarily close parts of the hotel—bars, restaurants, pool areas—even to registered guests. If your visit overlaps with a citywide event, confirm what will be open and available during your stay so there are no surprises when you arrive.
