We began our journey in Zanzibar, where we got married between two beautiful palm trees on the beach. The turquoise waters, soft white sand, and gentle ocean breeze created the most breathtaking backdrop for our ceremony. Our private oceanfront bungalow with floor-to-ceiling windows facing the Indian Ocean is a place I still think about often. We spent a few days on the island celebrating and unwinding. We snorkeled in crystal-clear waters filled with vibrant marine life, sailed out on sunset cruises where the sky lit up in brilliant shades of orange and pink, and even visited an ethical animal sanctuary that left us with a deeper appreciation for the island’s conservation efforts. Zanzibar offered the perfect mix of romance, adventure, and relaxation, a dream beginning to our honeymoon.

Then we connected with our private safari and from the very beginning everything was seamless and personal. Communication before the trip was excellent, with clear proposals and itineraries that laid out every detail. Adjustments to lodging and preferences were made easily, ensuring the trip felt fully customized. Upon arriving in Arusha, we were warmly welcomed and introduced to our private guide, who would be with us throughout the safari. Having one dedicated guide gave the journey a sense of intimacy and personalization that made it truly unforgettable.

Our guide’s knowledge of Tanzania was extraordinary. We learned not only fascinating details about the wildlife we encountered, but also about the landscapes, cultures, and traditions of the country. Whether watching lions in the Serengeti, elephants in Tarangire, or gazing over the Ngorongoro Crater, he always knew the best vantage points and patiently explained behaviors that made each sighting more meaningful. His expertise allowed us to experience the Big Five up close while also gaining a deeper appreciation of Tanzania, turning each day into both an adventure and a lesson.

One of the highlights of the trip was the hot air balloon safari over the Serengeti, which concluded with a champagne bush breakfast. Floating silently above the plains at sunrise and watching herds move below us was breathtaking. An experience we would highly recommend adding to any safari itinerary.

Our honeymoon in Zanzibar and Tanzania was the perfect blend of romance, adventure, and relaxation, from saying “I do” beneath palm trees on the beach to soaring over the Serengeti in a hot air balloon. Every detail was seamless and personalized, making it an unforgettable start to our marriage.

Need to know

It is important to apply for your visa well in advance, as processing times can vary. Be sure to check CDC guidance and get all recommended vaccines and medications before traveling, since you can never be too safe when it comes to protecting your health. Pack lightweight, breathable clothing in neutral colors for safari, along with a warm layer for early mornings and evenings. Good binoculars and a quality camera will enhance your experience, and insect repellent is essential. Finally, remember that tipping your guide and lodge staff is customary and greatly appreciated, as they work hard to make your journey memorable.
