Where to stay in the Maldives

It’s no secret that getting to the Maldives can be a bit of a challenge. Depending on your starting point, you could be looking at 24+ hours of flying. No one wants to land in the Maldives and waste another day sitting at the airport waiting to stick their toes in the pristine sand beaches and crystal-blue waters. That’s where the Hilton Maldives Amingiri excels.

Getting there
My family landed in the afternoon after a long flight from Istanbul. By the time we got our luggage, it took less than 10 minutes until we were on a boat to the resort and another 20-minute boat ride before we had welcome drinks in hand. Our first impressions were extremely positive as we had our assigned butler giving us a tour of the island on a golf cart. My children were very excited when the kids' club staff welcomed them by name and with a personalized stuffed animal. This sort of attention would become the norm over our next seven days.
The resort is easily accessible from Male International airport—unlike other resorts that require additional flights. Yet when you are on the island, you feel like you are secluded from the rest of the world. Every day, my family would enjoy a mix of pool time, beach time, and, while the kids were at the kids' club, much-needed relaxation time for my wife and me.

Service & food
The staff on the island clearly cared about us and enjoyed making our trip relaxing. The food spread was impressive, boasting sections from East Asia and the Middle East, along with Western and local Maldivian selections. My kids and I made sure to try a new food each meal. We never ran out of options in our entire week-long stay.
We alternated between the dinner restaurants, all of which allowed us to have ocean views and hear the soft waves serenading us. While there, each night gave us three or four dining options, along with room service. Our favorite meal was at the overwater restaurant Origin, which had some shark friends visiting underneath once the sun went down. My kids loved seeing the staff throw ice cubes into the water to get the attention of the sharks.
A special shoutout goes to the amazing staff at the kids' club. My kids were so sad to leave we had tears as we checked out!

Rooms
Every room at the resort either offers direct beach access or is an overwater villa. Our beach bungalow offered a private pool and access to a beach that was empty most of the time except for us. The rooms were spacious and cleaned twice a day. My kids loved the little treat that the turndown service provided while we were at dinner each night.

Amenities
Being on an island in the middle of the Indian Ocean sounds like it could get boring with a family, but the hotel offers a long list of activities to keep everyone entertained. Adults can go to the spa, join yoga sessions, scuba dive, jet ski, and fish, along with many other activities. Every day, my kids participated in activities like making seashell art and a pirate cruise around the island. Even getting around the island was fun with our personal bikes we rode each day to get to meals. I promise that your family will not be bored.

Final thoughts
Overall, if the Maldives has been on your radar, this is the place to take your family. It perfectly balances all of the variables that make family travel stressful, and leaves you with the joy of enjoying the beautiful location with the ones you love most.
