In March 2025, I conducted a site inspection at L'Hôtel Barrière Le Carl Gustaf in St. Barths, as well as dined at the property’s Beefbar and Shellona. The hotel
This five-star luxury property masters the balance of feeling like a boutique hotel, yet with expansive amenities. The full-service spa offers specialized facials, unique to each guest based on a custom skin analysis. The fitness center onsite is fully equipped. Onsite dining options include Le Bar, which is perfect for sunset sea views; the world-renowned Beefbar for formal dining; or the casual beachfront Shellona, which offers Mediterranean cuisine.
Guests have complimentary access to sun loungers at the Shellona beach club, which is a short five-minute walk from the rooms and suites.

The 16 rooms and suites each offer a sea view, and most have private plunge pools or jacuzzis. They are decorated with rich wood tones and colorful prints, combining the elegance of France with the tropical destination.

Location
Located a short walk up the hill from the town of Gustavia, the hotel is convenient for accessing shopping in the day and restaurants in the evening. Gustavia is the main destination on St. Barths for dinner and cocktails, so its proximity is ideal. For those who want to venture to other parts of the island in the day, the St. Jean area is about 10- to 15-minute drive away.
