Where to stay in the Wisconsin Dells

The Kalahari Resort in the Wisconsin Dells is the kind of destination that effortlessly blends high-energy fun with family-friendly experiences, making it perfect for a busy sports or cheer weekend. A standout highlight is the Kalahari Indoor Water Park, where excitement never stops—whether you’re braving the iconic toilet bowl slide or catching waves on the FlowRider. My son loved riding the FlowRider, while my daughter couldn’t get enough of the wave pool. The waterpark also offers quick-service food and a full bar, making it easy to grab a snack or drink between swims. People often ordered whole pizzas here to eat at the waterpark. It’s the ideal place for athletes to burn off adrenaline and for families to relax and play together, no matter the weather outside.

We stayed in the Sands building, which is conveniently attached to the main hotel and convention center via a sky-bridge walkway. The rooms were very clean and spacious, making it easy for our family to settle in comfortably after a full day of activities. Being close to both the waterpark and the convention center made moving between cheer competitions, family fun, and meals seamless and stress-free.

Beyond the waterpark, the Kalahari offers plenty of memorable stops that kids (and adults) love. Build-A-Bear adds a creative, hands-on experience where families can make a keepsake to remember the trip—my daughter made the cutest little bunny that now has a special place at home! Their candy and ice cream shop delivers the sweet treats that feel almost mandatory on vacation.

Tom Foolerys Adventure Park keeps the fun going with games and attractions, including a mirror maze, amusement rides, go-karts, a ropes course, a rock-climbing wall, laser tag, bowling, and more. It's nonstop entertainment for all ages, and also features quick-service counter food and a counter bar so families can refuel without leaving the fun.

When it’s time to eat, the Kalahari delivers options for every craving. Cinco Niños Mexican Restaurant is a must-try, especially their Tin Can Nachos, where the nachos are layered in a tin can on a board and then lifted at the table to assemble right in front of you—a fun and delicious interactive experience. Over at the Wisconsin Brew Pub, we loved the beer cheese soup, patty melt, chicken tenders, and cheese curds—comfort food done perfectly after a full day of activity. The Kalahari also offers additional dining options we didn’t try, including Sortino’s Italian Restaurant, Double Cut Steakhouse, and Redd’s Piano Bar & Lounge, giving plenty of variety for future visits.

Need to know

Our cheer gym has a Cheerabilities team for kids with special needs, so we pay extra attention to accessibility and accommodations available.

Accessibility at Kalahari Resort & Waterpark

  • General accessibility

The resort and its indoor spaces, including public areas and dining, are wheelchair accessible, with ramps and routes designed for easier navigation. Many visitors note that essential resort areas are manageable for guests using mobility devices.

  • Indoor waterpark

The indoor waterpark includes accessible entry points, and wave pools or lazy rivers often provide opportunities for guests of all abilities to enjoy the water. Wave pools and lazy rivers are generally easier to access than high-thrill slides for those with mobility limitations.

Accessible pool features such as transfer chairs may be available to assist with pool entry. Dedicated “handicap accessible” icons appear on some waterpark maps indicating accessible zones.

  • Sensory accommodations

Kalahari has introduced a Sensory-Friendly Calming Room in partnership with SSM Health, providing a quieter, low-stimulation environment for guests who may experience sensory overload.

  • Accessible lodging options

In addition to the main resort, there are accessible cabin accommodations available nearby, designed for wheelchair users with fully accessible bathrooms and spacious layouts.

Accessibility at Tom Foolerys Adventure Park

  • General accessibility

Tom Foolerys Adventure Park offers wheelchair-accessible entrances and facilities, including accessible restrooms and parking spaces close to the entrance.

  • Attractions & rides

Many attractions inside Tom Foolerys, such as arcade games, bowling, and some rides, can be enjoyed without physical strain. However, some rides and activities have safety requirements or harnesses that may not be suitable for all guests with limited mobility. These include rope courses, climbing walls, and certain rides that require specific physical participation.

Height or physical ability requirements apply to many attractions; guests and caregivers should check signage or ask staff for guidance.
