Curator’s statement
My first trip to Paris was a leap of faith—I booked my flight before my accommodations, only to discover it was Fashion Week and every hotel was sold out. With the internet still new, I stumbled upon an apartment instead, and it completely changed the way I experienced the city. From that serendipitous start, I fell in love with the charm of Parisian living—balconies, boulangeries, and the feeling of being part of the neighborhood. Since then, I’ve also stayed in some of Paris’ most beautiful hotels and fallen in love with their elegance and luxury. Today, as your Fora travel advisor, I can help you discover the best of both worlds—whether you dream of a grand hotel or a cozy Parisian apartment.

I’ve had countless people tell me their dream is to stay in a Paris apartment, and it’s no wonder why. Imagine carrying a baguette, cheese, and a bottle of wine from the market back to “your” place, enjoying breakfast on a tiny balcony overlooking the rooftops, or returning at night to a quiet, unassuming street where you feel like part of the neighborhood. Apartments offer the chance to live like a local—more space to spread out, a kitchen to prepare market finds, and a sense of owning a little piece of Paris, even if just for a week.

But apartments also come with quirks. Daily maid service isn’t included, luggage may have to be carried up winding staircases when there’s no elevator, and older buildings sometimes mean smaller bathrooms or less modern amenities. For many travelers, though, these imperfections are part of the charm—and exactly what makes the experience feel authentic and unforgettable.

Staying in a boutique or luxury Paris hotel comes with all the hallmarks of comfort and indulgence. From plush bedding and elegant lobbies to daily maid service and 24/7 concierge assistance, hotels deliver a seamless experience where every detail is managed for you. Many luxury properties also offer extras that elevate your stay—Michelin-starred dining on site, spa treatments after a long day of exploring, rooftop terraces with sweeping views of the Eiffel Tower, or even private drivers and exclusive access to cultural events. For travelers who want to feel pampered, hotels provide a curated version of Paris where elegance and service take center stage.

Of course, there are trade-offs. Hotels often come with a higher price tag, especially during peak seasons or special events, and rooms can be smaller than expected compared to apartments. While you’ll be immersed in comfort, you may feel a bit more like a guest than a resident of the city, with less privacy and fewer opportunities to cook or enjoy local markets in your own space. Some travelers also find that chain luxury hotels, though beautiful, can feel less personal or disconnected from everyday Parisian life. Still, for many, the polished service and convenience far outweigh these drawbacks, making hotels an irresistible way to experience Paris.

Hotels are perfect for a quick Paris getaway—bags handled, bed made, concierge ready with tips, and staff prepared to cater to your every whim so you can simply soak in the city—but they’re equally lovely if you’re staying a week and want polished service at your fingertips. Apartments, on the other hand, shine for longer adventures, giving you a base to shop at local markets, cook your own meals, and wander home like you belong there; one offers effortless convenience, the other immersive discovery, and both are enchanting ways to experience Paris depending on the kind of trip you’re dreaming of.
