Curator’s statement
There’s something special about pairing a few days at Walt Disney World Resort with a Disney Cruise—it truly feels like extending the magic. On our last trip, we spent a short stay exploring two parks, EPCOT and Disney’s Animal Kingdom, before boarding the Disney Fantasy. Even with limited time, these parks delivered incredible food, immersive storytelling, and unforgettable experiences for both kids and adults. If you can swing it, I always recommend visiting all four parks—but this quick Disney fix was the perfect start to our cruise vacation.

When clients ask how to add a little Disney magic before a cruise from Port Canaveral, I often recommend a short stay at Walt Disney World.
On this trip, we focused on two parks that offer incredible experiences without needing a full week: EPCOT and Animal Kingdom. Both parks combine great food with unique attractions, making them perfect even if you only have one or two days.
EPCOT
At EPCOT, we spent time exploring World Showcase and enjoyed two fantastic dining experiences. One highlight was dinner at Space 220, the immersive restaurant designed to feel like you’re dining in a space station orbiting Earth. The experience starts with a “space elevator” ride and opens into panoramic windows overlooking Earth from space. It’s one of the most unique dining experiences at Walt Disney World and the food was excellent. We also enjoyed a meal at Chefs de France in the France pavilion—a classic choice for French cuisine right in the heart of World Showcase.
EPCOT is also home to some fantastic attractions. Two of our favorites were Test Track, where guests design and test their own virtual vehicles, and Remy's Ratatouille Adventure, the charming trackless ride that shrinks guests down to the size of Remy as they scurry through Gusteau’s kitchen in the France pavilion. For families, EPCOT also offers great attractions like Frozen Ever After and Soarin' Around the World, which is always a guest favorite.
Animal Kingdom
Our second park day was spent at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, which feels completely different from the other Disney parks thanks to its lush landscapes and focus on wildlife. The highlight for our family was Kilimanjaro Safaris—a guided safari ride through an expansive savanna where we saw giraffes, elephants, zebras, and more roaming freely. Every ride is slightly different depending on where the animals are, which makes it exciting each time.
Animal Kingdom also offers some of the most beautiful theming in all of Walt Disney World. We loved simply walking the trails, spotting animals, and soaking in the atmosphere. For dinner, we visited Tiffins Restaurant, one of the park’s signature dining locations known for globally inspired dishes and beautiful artwork celebrating travel and exploration. Another restaurant I often recommend here is Yak & Yeti Restaurant—it’s very popular, so reservations are highly recommended.

In sum
For clients visiting Disney before a cruise, this type of two-park visit works extremely well. It allows families to experience some of Disney’s most iconic attractions and dining while still leaving plenty of time to relax before heading to Port Canaveral to begin their cruise vacation.
Need to know
If you’re combining Walt Disney World with a Disney Cruise, plan at least 2–3 nights in Orlando before sailing so travel delays don’t impact your cruise departure.
Dining reservations at popular restaurants like Space 220 and Tiffins open 60 days in advance and fill quickly, so planning ahead is key.
EPCOT is one of the best parks for food lovers thanks to the World Showcase pavilions representing 11 countries. Seasonal festivals (Food & Wine, Flower & Garden, Festival of the Holidays) add even more food booths and experiences.
At Animal Kingdom, try to ride Kilimanjaro Safaris early in the morning or later in the afternoon when animals tend to be more active.
If time allows, don’t miss Pandora: The World of Avatar in Animal Kingdom, home to the incredible Avatar Flight of Passage attraction.
If your schedule allows, I always recommend visiting all four Walt Disney World parks—EPCOT, Animal Kingdom, Magic Kingdom Park, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios—before your cruise for the full Disney experience.
