Explora Journeys is the luxury brand from the independently owned MSC Group. Their first ship, Explora I, launched in 2023, with Explora II following in 2024. Explora III is expected to debut in 2026 as an LNG-powered ship, with additional ships planned through the end of the decade.

Their brand positioning, “An Ocean State of Mind,” reflects the idea that a luxury hotel experience does not need to be land-based. With expansive dining and entertainment options, an elegant central lobby bar, and curated retail including Cartier, a Rolex Authorized Dealer boutique on select ships, and Panerai, offering a rare opportunity to purchase sought-after timepieces at sea, the onboard experience is designed to feel like a refined oceanfront resort rather than a traditional cruise. Pricing is thoughtfully all-inclusive, covering dining, beverages, and gratuities, which allows for a more seamless and relaxed experience onboard.

The ship features 461 ocean-view, all-suite accommodations, among the largest entry-level suites at sea, starting at approximately 377 square feet. Each suite includes a private terrace, a dining area, and a daybed or loungers for relaxing between ports. Thoughtful amenities include Dyson hairdryers, heated bathroom floors, espresso machines, and generous closet space.

Dining is a standout. Guests can choose from a range of restaurants including pan-Asian, Mediterranean, and a European-style steakhouse. The Emporium Marketplace offers an elevated, all-day dining concept with multiple live cooking stations, from sushi and ceviche to pastries, salads, and fresh juices. A chef’s kitchen experience is also available for an additional fee, offering hands-on culinary sessions inspired by regional destinations.

There are multiple pools onboard, including an adults-only option. The Conservatory Pool is the largest and features a retractable glass roof, making it usable in a variety of weather conditions. One design detail I appreciated was the placement of hot tubs along the edges of the ship, creating a more natural and visually appealing experience compared to traditional layouts.

Because the ship is larger than a yacht-style product, there is a wider range of onboard entertainment. This includes afternoon tea, live music, DJs, and performances in a larger lounge venue, as well as a small casino and multiple bars, including a dedicated wine-focused space. The overall energy is lively but still refined.

Intimate entertainment venue

For wellness-focused travelers, the spa includes a beautiful thermal area with hydrotherapy pools, a salt room, Finnish sauna, steam room, ice fall, and an outdoor relaxation deck. The fitness center and studio were developed in partnership with Technogym and are top notch, allowing you to stay in shape while at sea.

Explora Journeys is also more accommodating for solo travelers than many luxury cruise lines. A number of voyages offer reduced or even waived single supplements, which makes it an appealing option for solo travelers or small groups where not everyone is sharing a suite.

A final unique highlight is their partnership with Monaco Grand Prix, where Explora ships have secured prime docking positions during race week, offering a rare opportunity to experience the event from an exceptional vantage point.
