A Home in Stockholm: The Subtle Magic of Ett Hem
Curator’s statement

Ett Hem—meaning “a home” in Swedish—lives up to its name in the most authentic and understated way. From the moment I arrived, it was clear that this was not a typical hotel stay, but rather an immersion into a refined, deeply personal world of hospitality. While it takes a moment to adjust to Ett Hem’s rhythm—there are no formalities, no signs, no hotel-like structure—once you settle in, it’s impossible not to be enchanted.

Where to stay

Located in Stockholm’s elegant Östermalm district, Ett Hem sits quietly on a tree-lined residential street surrounded by classic Scandinavian townhouses and leafy courtyards. The neighborhood is sophisticated yet serene, a short walk from museums, boutiques, and cafés, yet far enough to feel like a peaceful retreat from the city’s bustle.

Entrance

From the outside, Ett Hem blends seamlessly into its surroundings, giving little away to the untrained eye. There’s no grand entrance or revolving door, just a simple bell at the gate. You ring, you wait, and when the door opens, you’re welcomed into what feels like a private residence.

Interior aesthetic around the house

Inside, the transition from guest to house member happens instantly. I was guided through a warm, lived-in space that felt more like a beautifully curated home than a hotel lobby. A piano, shelves lined with art books, an open bar, and carefully chosen artworks created an atmosphere that was both intimate and sophisticated. Check-in was done casually by the fireplace, with a cup of tea in hand, while my suitcase quietly disappeared—already taken to my room without me noticing.

Room details

The heart of Ett Hem is the kitchen and dining room, where guests can gather around a communal table or choose a quieter corner by the window. There’s no printed menu; instead, the chef simply asks what you’re in the mood for and crafts something around it. My dinner felt less like dining out and more like being cooked for by a friend who happens to be a culinary genius—fresh, seasonal, and deeply satisfying.

The Kitchen

The Kitchen

Beyond its cozy atmosphere and exceptional food, Ett Hem hides a world of thoughtful luxuries. Downstairs, a wellness area awaits, complete with a sauna and hammam, both available on a first-come, first-served basis. A daily yoga session is offered for guests, while an expansive, light-filled gym, lined with wood accents and designer equipment, feels more like a private fitness studio than a hotel gym.

In true “home” fashion, snacks and sweets are scattered around the house; freshly baked cakes cooling on the counter and bowls of nuts and fruit waiting in the library. Guests are encouraged to make themselves at home, whether that means pouring a glass of wine, curling up by the fire, or exploring Stockholm by bike—which you can borrow, of course, free of charge.

Lunch time

The service is gracious yet natural, the atmosphere effortlessly elegant. Ett Hem doesn’t try to impress; it simply invites you to belong. It’s not just a place to stay—it’s a home you’ll wish was yours.

Need to know

No two rooms at Ett Hem are the same; each has its own character, layout, and design details. Don’t rely solely on photos when choosing; discuss your preferences with your travel advisor, so we can help match you to the room that best fits your expectations.

The atmosphere here is deeply relaxed; it’s not a place for those seeking nightlife or crowds. Ett Hem is made for slow mornings, long dinners, and quiet moments by the fire.
