The Beverly Hills Hotel: If You Know, You Know
Curator’s statement

The Beverly Hills Hotel is one of those places that just feels iconic the moment you arrive. I’ve stayed here several times, and there’s always that sense of excitement, whether you’re poolside or dining and casually spotting familiar faces. It’s a place where history, glamour, and that classic L.A. energy all come together effortlessly. And knowing it inspired the Eagles’ “Hotel California” just adds another layer to how special it feels to be there.

Expert advice from people who’ve actually been there

Where to stay in L.A.

The Beverly Hills Hotel is one of those places where every moment feels like you’re part of something iconic. Opened in 1912, this hotel actually came before much of Beverly Hills itself and helped put the area on the map. Over the years, it became a true retreat for Hollywood’s biggest names—a place where they could escape, make deals, and simply live a little more privately. That legacy is still very much alive today. I’ve seen everyone from Mariah Carey to Jerry Seinfeld here, along with other musicians and Hollywood regulars. At some point, you stop wondering if you’ll see someone famous and start wondering who it’s going to be that day.

The Polo Lounge is truly the heart of it all, and has been since the 1940s when it became the go-to spot for Hollywood’s biggest power players. It’s where deals were made, relationships built, and stories created, and that energy is still there. The McCarthy salad is a must; it was created right here and has become one of the most famous dishes in Los Angeles. Sitting outside for lunch is one of my favorite things to do—it’s one of those meals that somehow turns into a long afternoon because it’s just too good to leave. Dinner is just as special, with oysters, steak tartare, homemade pasta, seafood, and classic steakhouse options. It’s lively, it’s elegant, and it's exactly what you want from a place like this.

The rooms range from beautifully designed guest rooms and suites to the iconic private bungalows, which are truly a must. The bungalows feel like your own private L.A. hideaway, and you can’t help but imagine the stories that have happened behind those doors, especially knowing Don Henley and Glenn Frey spent time here. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you should be writing something important… or at least ordering another cocktail. If you can, request a bungalow for a more private, residential feel—it completely changes the experience.

One of my favorite hidden gems is the Fountain Coffee Room, a charming 1950s-style diner that’s been serving Hollywood since 1949. It’s always fun walking down those stairs wondering who you’ll be sitting next to. Breakfast and lunch here are such a treat; you can’t beat the silver dollar pancakes or pecan waffles with fresh squeezed orange juice and coffee.

The Cabana Café is the definition of effortless L.A. living. Sitting poolside, you almost forget you’re in the middle of a city. Poolside here is basically a sport—find your chair, order something pink, and settle in. I always recommend the pink Cadillac drink—tequila and lime—sautéed shrimp, a little gem Caesar, or a margherita pizza. And of course, something sweet like the pink palace macaron or one of their jumbo cookies.

The spa is another highlight, whether you go all out with the Pink Himalayan warm stone massage or the Marilyn Monroe ritual, or keep it simple with a signature manicure and pedicure. It’s also such a beautiful setting for events, especially in the Crystal Ballroom.

And I have to say, every time I come home from staying here, I tell my husband I want to redecorate our entire house in pink and green stripes with palm fronds everywhere. He just laughs and says, “Okay, dear.” After a few days here, you’ll completely understand why.

Spring and fall are especially beautiful with perfect weather, but there’s really no bad time to visit—it’s always buzzing. This is perfect for couples, girls' trips, or anyone who loves a mix of luxury, people-watching, and classic L.A. energy. Definitely take time to enjoy the hotel itself, not just venture out, because so much of the experience is right here on property. You come for a few nights… and leave wondering how to bring the pink walls home with you.

Need to know

Make reservations in advance for the Polo Lounge and plan extra time at the hotel—it’s one of those places you won’t want to rush. Also, keep in mind that L.A. traffic can be unpredictable, so give yourself a little buffer when heading out.
