Things to note before you and your guests arrive

There are only nine taxis on the island, but they all work seamlessly together, ensuring you can get around with ease. The island also boasts fantastic public transport options, and hotels can assist with transportation as well, making it convenient for you and your guests.

For the perfect wedding venue, I can’t speak highly enough about Lazarou. It’s an absolutely stunning spot with breathtaking views overlooking the water. For our own wedding, we had a boat take us from the church to the venue after our photos, making for an incredibly memorable moment. Plus, there’s a bus service available for transporting your guests to and from your events, so everyone can relax and enjoy the day without worrying about logistics.

One of the best things about the island is the people. The locals are incredibly warm, friendly and always eager to help, ensuring you and your guests will feel right at home. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel welcome and cared for every step of the way.

  • Night one: cocktails & culture
Kick things off with a welcome cocktail hour at Argos. This sleek, stylish spot offers expertly crafted drinks, a vibrant yet relaxed vibe and stunning views to set the perfect tone for your celebration. Whether it’s a pre-wedding gathering or a chic start to the festivities, Argos makes it memorable.
If the weather allows, you can even rent a boat for sunset cocktails on the Aegean — a magical experience to start things off. Just in case it’s windy (as it often is at night), consider a cozy alternative like hosting at your hotel with a traditional Greek band and local wines to immerse everyone in the island’s culture from the start.

  • Day two: Relax, explore & rehearse
Spend the day enjoying the island. Whether it’s a beach day or a boat tour around the coastline, this is the perfect time for your guests to soak in the island’s natural beauty. A tour with onboard dining gives everyone a relaxed chance to connect while exploring the scenic coastline.

In the evening, host your rehearsal dinner at Fasolou, a beachside gem nestled under pine trees. The food here is phenomenal — think mouthwatering seafood and traditional Greek dishes with a twist. The owner (who’s also a DJ and lighting designer!) will ensure an unforgettable night, complete with music, dancing under the stars and maybe even a fireworks show.

Need to know

Sifnos is an incredibly underrated gem for a wedding destination. While places like Mykonos and Santorini often steal the spotlight, Sifnos offers an equally stunning, if not more unique, experience — at a fraction of the cost. It’s a place where the beauty of the island is as breathtaking as its rich traditions. Sifnos is home to 365 churches, one for each day of the year, and their unique, charming formations are unlike anything I’ve seen elsewhere. The island’s authenticity and charm make it a special place to say “I do,” with a backdrop that truly feels like a step back in time.

Beyond the picturesque setting, Sifnos is a photographer’s and videographer’s paradise. There are local talents who know the island inside and out, capturing the essence of the island in every shot. They know all the hidden corners, the perfect lighting and the most breathtaking views to ensure your wedding memories are perfectly preserved.

The island’s small size creates a close-knit, welcoming atmosphere where everyone knows each other, adding to the warmth of your experience. While it’s intimate, it’s also full of personal touches — from the island’s florist, who creates breathtaking arrangements, to the two pastry shops that serve some of the most delectable treats. I highly recommend The Yellow Bicycle and Gerontopoulos, where we got our wedding cake. Their creations were perfect and tasted even better.

Choosing Sifnos means embracing the island’s rich cultural heritage and beauty, while also supporting local businesses that will go above and beyond to make your day unforgettable. It’s the perfect place to tie the knot and create memories that will last a lifetime.
