Jaisalmer was one of those places for me.
Rising from the heart of Rajasthan’s Thar Desert, Jaisalmer is often celebrated for its golden fort, magnificent havelis, and vibrant culture. Yet the experience that remains etched in my memory had nothing to do with monuments or architecture.
It began after sunset.
As darkness settled over the desert, the dunes transformed into a landscape of silver and shadow. A full moon hung high above the horizon, illuminating the sands with an almost surreal glow.

Best time: October through February
My favorite months are October, November, and February when temperatures remain comfortable during the day while evenings are cool enough to enjoy desert nights.
December and January are beautiful as well, though nighttime temperatures can become surprisingly cold.
