Where to stay in Big Sky

My favorite aspect of Montage Big Sky is that it gives winter travelers the best version of Big Sky: expansive views, access to outdoor adventure, and a calm luxury setting that makes the trip feel restorative. It is especially well suited to clients who want skiing to be part of the trip, but not the only focus.

One-bedroom Vista Suite

For those who enjoy fine dining, spa time, scenic mountain surroundings, and a slower pace after time on the slopes, this is one of the most appealing properties in the destination. The spa is a true standout, with a world-class atmosphere and a can’t-miss massage that feels especially rewarding after a day in the snow. In the evenings, the fire pit adds a cozy mountain-lodge touch, and marshmallow roasting brings a relaxed, fun element that feels perfect for families, couples, or multigenerational trips. Sledding adds another playful winter activity that gives guests something memorable to do beyond skiing, especially for those looking for easy après-ski entertainment.

Shopping is another strong point, and the property makes it easy to enjoy it in style. The fleet of Escalades available for transport into Big Sky adds a seamless luxury touch and makes heading into town feel effortless rather than logistical. That kind of service is especially valuable for clients who want to browse the shops, enjoy a meal, or pick up winter essentials without worrying about driving or parking.

For families, the bowling alley was a huge hit, and my three young children had an especially fun time there, which made it a great option for a relaxed evening activity after a day outdoors. Breakfasts were also a highlight and truly to die for, with the kind of quality and variety that make mornings at the resort feel like part of the experience rather than just the start of the day. A day trip to Yellowstone adds even more depth to the stay, giving guests the chance to experience one of the most iconic natural landscapes in the country, and turning the trip into something even more memorable.

Overall, Montage Big Sky works beautifully for travelers who appreciate a high-end winter escape with both adventure and comfort, where the resort experience feels just as special as the mountain itself.

Need to know

Prioritize dining and shopping in Big Sky Town Center and Meadow Village. Top restaurants include Horn & Cantle at Lone Mountain Ranch for fine-dining steaks and wild game (reservations required), Michaelangelo’s Ristorante for Italian with bison ravioli and wagyu filets, Olive B’s Big Sky Bistro for locally sourced American fare, and Tres Toros Tacos & Tequila for margaritas and tacos.

For casual favorites, try the long-running Blue Moon Bakery for pastries, coffee, and pizza, Ousel & Spur Pizza Co. for wood-fired pies near the skating rink, By Word of Mouth for the best burgers in town, and Blindside Burger for a newer burger option.

For shopping, visit JP Woolies for cozy apparel, Sky Boutique for elevated gifts, Montana Supply Co. for local gear, and The Trove West for curated finds. For ski and outdoor shopping, Gallatin Alpine Sports, East Slope Outdoors, and Christy Sports are excellent stops.
