Curator’s statement
As a Mexican and proud local, I’m deeply in love with Mexico City and everything it offers—from museums and concerts to tradition, food, and culture. With its mix of ancient heritage and dynamic culinary, fashion, and art scenes, this ever-evolving city has long inspired creatives from around the world. It’s a place of striking contrasts, where contemporary art lives alongside centuries-old expressions. The food ranges from iconic street stalls to Michelin-starred restaurants that attract global travelers. You can shop artisanal crafts, antiques, and vintage pieces in historic markets, then stroll through beautiful parks and boulevards. And within the historic center, hidden murals and ancient temples are still waiting to be uncovered.

Need to know
Mexico City (CDMX) is a phenomenal destination that is generally safe for tourists who practice strong common sense. The primary security concern is petty crime like pickpocketing, especially in crowded tourist areas and on the public Metro. To mitigate this, travel light, avoid displaying expensive jewelry or electronics, and keep valuables secured in front of you. When moving around, always use app-based services like Uber or DiDi, particularly at night, and avoid hailing unmarked taxis on the street. While official advisories suggest exercising increased caution, being aware of your surroundings and sticking to well-regarded neighborhoods like Roma Norte, Condesa, and Polanco will significantly reduce your risk.
Beyond security, visitors should be aware of a few key details. The city's high altitude (over 7,000 feet) means you should take it easy and stay hydrated upon arrival. Do not drink the tap water; only consume bottled water or drinks/ice from reputable establishments. Finally, cash is essential for street food and tipping, and you should practice caution when using ATMs by withdrawing money inside banks or major businesses. By maintaining situational awareness, planning your transportation, and being culturally respectful, you can fully enjoy the vibrant culture, history, and world-class cuisine of Mexico City.
