Things to do in Morocco

Best time of year to visit Morocco:

Planning your Morocco honeymoon for either the Spring (March to May) or the Fall (September to November), provides the mildest temperatures. Summer is HOT and Winter can be a bit cold. We have been told that the sun shines 360 days of the year in Morocco, so sun is never an issue!

Where to visit if you have 10 days or less:

When you fly into Morocco, most likely your choices will be to land in either Casablanca or Marrakech. We suggest landing in Marrakech and skipping Casablanca. Marrakech is a great stepping-off point to discover many of the different landscapes of Morocco.

We would recommend starting your trip off with some rest and relaxation (usually needed after a wedding!) We know the perfect place; at the edge of the dessert in Soura there is a magical place called Dar Ahlam (which means “house of dreams”!) Although it is a bit of a drive from the Marrakech airport, you will be rewarded beyond belief once you arrive at this 200-year-old modernized Kasbah. The property itself is a true oasis with olive, lime, pomegranate and date palm trees everywhere you look throughout the beautiful gardens. This is a luxurious all-inclusive property (three meals a day, snacks, alcohol, and all experiences) where you will be treated to dining at a different location for every meal (and you always feel as if you are the only people there!) Locations like the herb garden, the Kasbah rooftop, under the olive trees or a private set-up in the desert all make for the ultimate romantic setting. Each evening you can discuss the activities you would like to experience the next day; the car, driver and guide are complimentary. Everything is tailored to your desires and interests, and your travel planner can make sure they know your preferences as a couple before you arrive! We can’t think of a better place to get through your jet lag and take each day the way you desire. The pool is stunning too if you just want to spend a day relaxing.

Next, we might suggest you head to the desert for a “glamping” experience. One of our favorites is Caravan Habitats by Agafay. Here you can experience a camel ride at sunset, mountain biking through the desert or learn about Moroccan bread baking and the Moroccan tea ceremony. We love the cultural, experiential focus of this property as well as the fact that your tent will have all the conveniences like a king-size bed, running water and a hot shower. The onsite restaurant serves outstanding Moroccan food and there are even two pools for lounging. It is located about 45 minutes outside of Marrakech, so your next stop will not be too long of a drive.

Marrakech absolutely needs to be included on your itinerary. From getting lost in the Souk while finding a good bargain, to tasting your way through Moroccan cuisine, experiencing a traditional Hammam and exploring the gardens and historical sites- Marrakech has so many things to see and do. Hiring a driver and local guide is key to maximizing your time here (we can help with that!). There are many stunning hotels and riads to choose from. Depending on your desires and budget, a few that we would recommend would be the Royal Mansour, La Mamounia, Hotel La Maison Arabe and El Fenn Riad Secret Jardin.

Things we would recommend including on your itinerary in Marakech:

  • A local cooking class to learn a few traditional dishes.

  • A guided tour of the night market in Djemaa El Fan Square.

  • A guided shopping tour that might include learning about local artisans in the Souks, a visit to a Moroccan pharmacy for spices, oils and tonics, learning about Moroccan rugs, artifacts and antiques.

  • A visit to a Moroccan spa to experience a Hammam (we love the Royal Mansour Spa!)

  • A baking class at a local women’s non-profit.

  • A visit to Le Jardin Secret and Dar El Bacha (don’t miss Bacha Coffee!)

  • Dinner at El Fenn.

  • Lunch at Jardins Du Lotus.

  • Dinner and a show at Comptoir Darna.
