Curator’s statement
There’s just something special about Grand Cayman for me. My brother went to medical school there, and my husband and I have been multiple times—with and without kids. Grand Cayman checks all the boxes for an easy, memorable family vacation. With plenty of direct flights from major US cities and a clean, modern airport, getting there is easy, especially when traveling with kids. Once you arrive, the island feels calm and manageable: It’s small, extremely safe, and easy to navigate. Many families choose to rent a car (just remember you’ll be driving on the left!), making it simple to explore at your own pace.

Things to do in Grand Cayman

Stingray City
Seven Mile Beach is the star of the show, with soft white sand and crystal-clear turquoise water that is perfect for swimming, sandcastles, and laid-back beach days. The big-name resorts all reside on Seven Mile Beach, and it’s easy to stroll along the beach to stop for a rum punch at each spot.
Grand Cayman is also world-famous for snorkeling and diving, even for beginners. Family-friendly boat trips to Stingray City, Starfish Point, and Rum Point are unforgettable experiences that kids and adults alike will talk about long after the trip ends. Rum Point is a laid-back, postcard-perfect spot on the north side of Grand Cayman, known for its shallow, calm water and breezy island vibe. It’s ideal for families—think easy swimming, hammocks under palm trees, and a beachy lunch with your toes in the sand. Some of the best snorkeling I’ve ever done was off of Rum Point!
Beyond the water, the Cayman Turtle Conservation and Education Centre is a must-visit for families, offering a water park and hands-on learning and close encounters with sea turtles. The Cayman Islands were once home to over two million sea turtles, and they are regarded as a national symbol. Look for a turtle on the Cayman flag and money! The Turtle Centre is helping to save the species by ensuring sustainable husbandry that honors the Caymanian culture, releasing sea turtles into the ocean, and providing conservation education and advocacy.
Places to eat & drink in Grand Cayman

Tarpon feeding at The Wharf
When it comes to dining, Grand Cayman boasts an impressive mix of casual beach spots and standout restaurants that even picky eaters will love. I personally love ones with an ocean view where I can watch the cruise ships sail in. Some of my family’s favorites include:
Ave at The Kimpton Seafire: Mediterranean seafood and steaks served with an ocean view at my favorite hotel on the island!
Blue at The Ritz: A luxe date-night option.
Bacaro: Upscale yet relaxed Venetian-style small plates and tapas overlooking the boats at the Yacht Club.
Macabuca/Cracked Conch Tiki Bar and Grill: Located oceanfront in West Bay, this is a fun spot for lunch after visiting the Turtle Centre. You can even swim and snorkel right next to the restaurant!
Agua at Camana Bay: Italian Peruvian seafood fusion set on the waterfront in Camana Bay, which is a lively, upscale, open-air shopping and dining destination.
Pappagallo: An Italian restaurant in West Bay set on the edge of a natural lagoon within a 14-acre bird sanctuary. Kids will love the parrots!
The Wharf: A Grand Cayman institution set on the ocean at the end of Seven Mile Beach. There are planned tarpon feedings where hundreds of tarpon swim right up to the restaurant’s dock. A must-do with the kids!
Need to know
Easy, safe, beautiful, and packed with activities, Grand Cayman is one of those rare destinations that truly works for the whole family.
