Things to do in Seoul

Shopping for beauty products and Korean fashion brands

Olive Young is probably the go-to spot for skincare and makeup products in Seoul. Keep in mind that different outlets may carry different selections, so it’s always worth popping into any store you come across. The largest Olive Young in Seongsu even offers free skin analysis. If you’re looking for premium brands like Rejuran or Sulwhasoo, it’s best to purchase them at the airport after immigration—the deals are much better, with extra discounts and more samples.

Don’t forget to check out local pharmacies for effective skin care products, especially PDRN (salmon sperm DNA). You can even visit wholesale pharmacies, where prices can vary by neighborhood—sometimes up to 30 percent cheaper!

Beyond Gentle Monster, there are other stylish yet affordable sunglasses brands like Rieti (also available at the airport with great discounts). Popular local brands worth exploring include Tamburins, Hetras, Mardi Mercredi, Emis, Stand Oil, Maison Loeuvre, Sappun, and Cueren—known for their perfumes, clothing, bags, and shoes.

For shopping districts, don’t miss Hannam-dong, Seongsu, and Apgujeong, as well as department stores such as The Hyundai Mall, Shinsegae, and Lotte World Tower in Jamsil.

And always carry your passport with you—many shops offer instant tax-free pricing.

Indulge in Korean fine cuisine

For those who enjoy culinary exploration, you’ll also find Michelin-starred restaurants across the city, as well as contemporary chefs redefining Korean gastronomy. Over the years, Korean cuisine has transformed dramatically, blending tradition with modern techniques. One must-try experience available only in South Korea is their highly prized Hanwoo beef, celebrated for its rich flavor and tenderness. A great place to savor it is Born & Bred, a renowned restaurant that stands as a testament to Korea’s proud beef heritage.

Seoul’s fine dining scene is also home to several world-class restaurants worth adding to your list, including Mingles, Eatanic Garden, and Solbam—all of which showcase innovative takes on Korean flavors with global sophistication. Reservations are essential, so be sure to book well in advance or have your travel advisor secure them for you.

Visit to skin clinic, hair salon, and personal color analysis

A trip to Seoul wouldn’t be complete without visiting a skin clinic, as the city is known for having some of the best and most advanced technology in the world. Whether you’re considering invasive, or non-invasive procedures, there are countless options to choose from, which can feel overwhelming at first. The good news is that there’s something for every budget and comfort level. Language barriers aren’t much of an issue either, as many clinics have English-speaking staff. Most reservations can be made easily through WhatsApp or Instagram DM, and consultations are usually free if you decide to proceed with a treatment.

A hair spa is also a must while in Seoul. Many salons can accommodate groups, so you and your friends can book appointments together—just make sure to reserve in advance. Whether it’s a simple haircut, a chic C-curl, fresh hair color, or a nourishing scalp treatment, you can count on leaving with a fabulous new look.

Another fun experience is getting a personal color analysis, where professionals determine which shades best complement your skin tone, eye color, and hair. This is a great activity to do before hitting the shops—it’ll make your fashion and beauty purchases even more tailored to you!

Taking professional shots with talented photographers

If you’ve been thinking about getting professional photos—whether it’s a polished shot for LinkedIn or something fun for your social media profile—Seoul is the perfect place to do it. The city is full of high-quality in-house photo studios, and it’s also a great idea to book a group shoot with your girlfriends to capture those special memories together.

Afterwards, make it a two-part experience by heading to a photo booth for some casual, playful shots. Expect plenty of laughter, silly poses, and fun props to use. Don’t forget to scan the QR code at the end—you’ll get digital copies of your photos plus a behind-the-scenes video of the moment right before the camera clicks!

Experience wearing traditional Hanbok

One of the most memorable experiences you can have with your girlfriends in Seoul is renting a traditional hanbok. Stroll through the charming streets of Bukchon Hanok Village or wander the grand courtyards of Gyeongbokgung Palace dressed in these beautifully crafted outfits. Many rental shops not only provide hanbok but also include hairstyling and accessories, so you can fully immerse yourself in the look.

It’s the perfect chance to channel your inner princess for a day. Don’t forget to snap plenty of photos—both candid street shots and posed group pictures—because the traditional hanbok against the backdrop of palaces and hanok houses makes for truly stunning memories.

And the best part? Wearing a hanbok often grants free entry to palaces, making it both a cultural and practical activity. This is definitely an experience best shared with your girlfriends—you’ll laugh, pose, and feel like royalty together

Eating Korean fried chicken and ramyeon by the Han River

Lastly, don’t forget to spend a relaxed evening with your girlfriends by the Han River, soaking in those K-drama vibes. Pick up instant ramyeon from a convenience store at Yeouido Hangang Park, pair it with takeaway Korean fried chicken, and enjoy it all with some cold beer or soju.

It’s the perfect way to wind down the day—simple, fun, and unforgettable.

Places to eat & drink in Seoul

  • Fritz: There are a few outlets in Seoul, and their pastries—especially the viennoiserie—are wonderful, paired perfectly with their coffee. Their merchandise is super cute too, so be sure to grab some cups, socks, or a t-shirt!

  • Camel Coffee: Camel Coffee can be found in multiple locations around Seoul and is known for its delicious signature caramel cream latte—a sweet, smooth blend with just the right balance to complement its richness.

  • Mitbord: This Scandinavian-style café serves amazing breakfast plates and lunch menus with seasonal, plant-based dishes. Their sourdough is to die for, and the interior is stylish and chic, making it a perfect spot for brunch or a leisurely meal.

  • Mr. Ahn Craft Makgeolli: A Michelin-awarded restaurant, Mr. Ahn offers a modern and elevated dining experience that reimagines Korean drinking culture, with a focus on authentic makgeolli made from all-natural ingredients. The food is exquisite, redefining traditional Korean ingredients into dishes bursting with flavor.

  • Hyodo Chicken: Fried chicken and beer—a beloved Korean staple known as “chimaek” (‘Chi’ from chicken, ‘Maek’ from the Korean word for beer, ‘Maekju’)—gets a fine-dining twist here. Developed by two fine-dining chefs, Hyodo Chicken serves succulent, uniquely flavored fried chicken that you won’t find anywhere else.

  • Ggupdang: While in Seongsu, take a queue number at this Korean BBQ restaurant and explore nearby shops while you wait. You can track your number through your phone. The meat is incredibly tasty, and you don’t even need to grill it yourself—the friendly staff will do it for you. All you have to do is sit back, relax, and enjoy.

  • Gebang Sikdang: Ganjang gejang (marinated crab in aged soy sauce) is a must-try in South Korea if you enjoy raw seafood. Gebang Sikdang is highly rated and included in the Michelin guide. If raw dishes aren’t your thing, visit for dinner to try their squid tapas, seafood tapas, braised short ribs, and juicy dumplings.

Need to know

Navigation: Download Naver Map or Kakao Map for accurate navigation, as Google Maps is often less reliable in South Korea. Both apps are available in English and make getting around the city much easier.

Tax refunds: You can claim tax refunds not only on shopping but also for certain hotels and skin clinic treatments. Always carry your passport when making purchases or booking services.

Restaurant hours: Some restaurants are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, so it’s best to check their schedules before heading out.

Transportation: Use Uber Taxi or local car-sharing apps for convenient rides. Rates are generally reasonable, and it’s a reliable way to get around if you’re traveling with friends.

Cash and cards: Most places accept credit cards, some through a digital wallet (tap) while some require a physical credit card. However, for some small cafés, street food stalls, and local markets are cash-only. T-Money cards are useful for transportation and small purchases in the convenience stores. You can get the digital card installed on your phone, so you don’t need to carry so many cards with you.
