Advisor - Girls' Getaway to Boston
Curator’s statement

I previously lived in Boston and returned with my girlfriends for a birthday celebration weekend. Boston is a good-sized city where you can easily see a lot of things in just a few days. Whether you like history, outdoor activities, fancy restaurants, or art, I’ve created a list of things to do with your crew. My favorite seasons to visit are the spring and summer, but you can still have a good time the other months as long as you prepare and pack warm clothes. Boston winters can be beautiful if you’re wearing the right gear!

Where to stay in Boston

Things to do in Boston

Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum

Housed in Isabella’s former home, which alone is a work of art, you can spend hours walking through the halls and viewing the courtyard in this unique space. Tip: Before you visit, watch the Netflix documentary “This Is a Robbery: The World’s Biggest Art Heist” to learn about the 1990 robbery at this museum.

Museum of Fine Arts

Tip: Download the MFA app through Bloomberg Connects for a free audio guide while exploring the museum.

Boston Common and Public Garden

Go ice skating at Frog Pond in the winter or check out the beer garden in the summer, located at the corner of Tremont Street and Boylston Street.

Boston Public Library

More than just books, this historic library is almost like a museum with the art to explore and architectural details to view. Tip: The Courtyard Tea Room serves afternoon tea Wednesday through Friday. You can also watch a live radio broadcast (WGBH 89.7) on the corner of the first floor in the Johnson Building on weekdays from 11 am–2 pm.

Boston Athenaeum

If you like books, you’ll find five floors to check out in this historic building. It’s part library, museum, and cultural center in one.

Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway

Enjoy the outdoors and have a drink in the beer garden or grab a bite to eat at one of the many food trucks.

Cycleboat

Take a boat ride on the harbor. These pedal boats are like bike riding on water. Tip: The boat is BYOB, so pick up a bottle of wine or beer before you board the boat.

Shopping

Newbury Street: Walk along the brownstones and stop in the boutiques. You can go from high end stores such as Burberry to chains such as Zara. A block away is Boylston Street with more shops and two malls, Prudential Center and Copley Place.

Beacon Hill: Walk down Charles Street from Boston Common towards the water and you’ll find lots of boutiques. Tip: Skip the chain at the corner and stop by Beacon Hill Books and Cafe for a cup of coffee in a beautiful indoor-outdoor setting.

Faneuil Hall: Based in four historic buildings, you’ll find a combination of locally owned stores where you can pick up a souvenir or shop at a few chains such as Sephora.

Assembly Row: If you want some outlet shopping, take a 15-minute drive to check out this newer area, which opened in 2014.

Workout classes

Try a new activity together with friends. Check out some of these group classes while you’re in the area, which you may not have at home. Tip: With all these classes, be sure to make a reservation online since they don’t take walk-ins.

Barre Grove: Barre, trampoline, sculpt, and dance classes in a fun environment. There are three locations in downtown, Back Bay, and in the Theater District at the Bijou Nightclub (yes, that’s right at a club).

Swet Studio – Aerial Yoga: They have a beginner class where you can switch up your traditional yoga session to get a great stretch while hanging from hammocks.

Btone Fitness: Pilates reformer classes with upbeat music.
