Curator’s statement
Visiting the French side of St. Martin feels like stepping into the south of France—think cobblestone streets and chic cafés—but with the laid-back charm of the Caribbean. In Marigot, the island’s charming capital, you can wander through colorful markets, indulge in world-class French-Caribbean cuisine in Grand Case, or relax on the powdery shores of Orient Bay. It’s a rare blend of European elegance and tropical ease, all just a short flight from the US. Whether you’re sipping rosé at sunset or exploring lush trails at Loterie Farm, this side of the island offers a slice of France without the long-haul flight.

Things to do on St. Martin

Hiking on Pinel Island with a view of St. Martin.
Loterie Farm: Loterie Farm has such a unique vibe—it started as a 17th-century sugar plantation, but today, it’s a peaceful nature reserve that feels like a true escape. I love spending time here, whether it’s swimming in the spring-fed pool, hiking through the lush trails, or getting my adrenaline pumping on the treetop obstacle courses and ziplines. It’s one of those places where you can connect with nature, have an adventure, and just relax all in one spot.
Pinel Island: A hidden gem—and honestly, my favorite beach on the island—Pinel Island is just a quick ferry ride from the French side of St. Martin, but it feels like a world away. The calm, crystal-clear waters are perfect for snorkeling, paddleboarding, or just floating the day away. I love grabbing a fresh seafood lunch at Karibuni, then hiking to the other side of the island for stunning views of Tintamarre and St. Barths. It’s the kind of place where you can truly unwind, surrounded by nature, sunshine, and that slow, easy Caribbean rhythm.
Grand Case: Grand Case has this magic about it—it’s the kind of place that immediately feels like home. Nestled on the northwest coast of St. Martin’s French side, this charming village mixes the chill vibe of the Caribbean with just enough French elegance. I always find myself coming back for the food—whether it’s grabbing fresh lobster at one of the beachside lolos or enjoying a delicious meal at a cozy French bistro, it’s always a treat. The beach is perfect for a lazy swim or snorkeling around Creole Rock, and you can’t miss a sunset drink at Java. As the evening sets in, the town comes alive with lantern-lit streets, live music, and the buzz of Grand Case Tuesdays—locals and travelers alike gathered for food, music, and dancing under the stars.
Orient Bay: Orient Bay always feels like my little piece of the French Riviera in the Caribbean. The soft, white sand and those perfect turquoise waters make it ideal for everything from swimming and snorkeling to trying out water sports like kitesurfing. I love the colorful, laid-back vibe of the village—there’s something special about the Creole-style buildings, the beachfront bars, and all the amazing spots to grab fresh seafood or French delicacies. If you’re spending the day there, I highly recommend checking out Joa Beach Club—it’s the perfect place to relax. Whether you’re lounging under an umbrella, enjoying a meal with an ocean view, or just wandering through the lively village square, Orient Bay really has the perfect mix of relaxation and adventure.
A day trip to St. Barths or Anguilla: If you’re looking for a day of luxury or just pure relaxation, St. Martin gives you two amazing day trip options. You can hop on a quick 45 minute ferry ride to St. Barths, where you’ll be greeted by stunning beaches like Gouverneur and Saline, perfect for soaking up the sun. I love grabbing a bite with an ocean view and then wandering through the stylish boutiques in Gustavia—it’s the ultimate French getaway. Alternatively, you can take a quick 20 minute ferry and head to Anguilla for a more laid-back vibe. The beaches there, like Shoal Bay, are gorgeous and much less crowded, making it the perfect spot to relax, snorkel in crystal-clear waters, and enjoy some of the best seafood at a beachside restaurant. Both islands offer something special, whether you’re in the mood for St. Barths’ glam or Anguilla’s peaceful charm.
Places to eat & drink on St. Martin

Golden hour sips at Java
Les Galets: A small, charming gem in the heart of Jardins d’Orient Bay that feels like a hidden treasure. This intimate fine-dining restaurant offers a cozy, romantic vibe, with just a few tables, making it the perfect spot for a special evening. Chef Sébastien Barrière crafts a unique five-course menu each week, blending French cuisine with global flavors that never disappoint. Because it’s such a small and exclusive spot, reservations are a must—trust me, you’ll want to make sure you don’t miss out on this unforgettable dining experience.
Java Restaurant: One of my favorite spots on the French side of St. Martin, especially for a relaxed meal or sunset drinks. The restaurant has a laid-back yet chic vibe, perfect for enjoying fresh, delicious food while taking in the beautiful ocean views. I love stopping by for a leisurely lunch or heading there in the evening for cocktails as the sun sets over Orient Bay. The atmosphere is always so welcoming, making it the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy some of the best food on the island.
Lolos: This is where you’ll really get a taste of the island’s heart and soul. These small, no-frills spots are where the locals go for a hearty meal, and I love how relaxed and welcoming they feel. The food is always fresh and flavorful, with dishes like curry chicken, conch stew, and spicy shrimp served up with johnny cakes on the side. It’s the kind of place where you grab a seat at a picnic table, chat with the locals, and enjoy a simple, delicious meal that’s full of island flavor. If you’re in Grand Case, make sure to stop by spots like Cynthia’s or Sky’s the Limit—these are the go-to lolos that really capture the spirit of St. Martin.
Karibuni: One of those places that feels like a little piece of paradise. Located on Pinel Island, this cozy restaurant has such a relaxed and welcoming vibe, perfect for a long, leisurely meal. The food is always fresh and full of flavor—if you’re there, you’ve got to try their grilled fish. After your meal, it’s the perfect spot to kick back, sip a cocktail, and enjoy the breathtaking views. It’s one of those places where the atmosphere, the food, and the setting all come together to make it a truly unforgettable experience.
JOA Beach Club: One of those places I keep finding myself drawn back to—it just gets everything right. It’s laid-back but still has that chic, beachy vibe that makes you want to stay all day. I love settling into one of their comfy lounge chairs with a cocktail in hand, soaking up the view of Orient Bay. The food is always spot-on—I’m obsessed with the shrimp tempura salad and tuna tartare, but honestly, everything I’ve tried has been great. The staff is warm and genuinely friendly, which makes the whole experience feel effortless. Whether it’s a lazy lunch, sunset drinks, or catching live music on a Sunday, JOA always hits the spot.
