Days 1-3: La Fortuna—exploring the Arenal region

La Fortuna is home to the iconic Arenal Volcano (yes, it’s active!), natural hot springs, and some of the most stunning waterfalls in Costa Rica. This is the perfect place to hit the ground running, with no shortage of adventure at your fingertips. Spend your days rappelling down 250-foot waterfalls, whitewater rafting, kayaking, or exploring local coffee plantations to learn more about Costa Rica’s rich culture and flavors. Beyond the adventures, the town itself is incredibly charming, offering amazing food, warm hospitality, and a relaxed atmosphere that makes it easy to unwind after a full day of exploring.
Days 3-5: Monteverde—exploring the Cloud Forest

Monteverde is home to one of the most breathtaking cloud forests in the world, where misty canopies and lush greenery create a truly magical setting. This region is known for its unforgettable adventures, including world-class zip lining—complete with Superman lines and Tarzan swings—along with hanging bridges that let you explore high above the forest floor. One of the highlights is a guided night walk, where the forest comes alive and you can spot nocturnal wildlife. Costa Rica is one of the most biodiverse countries on Earth, and Monteverde offers the chance to see everything from colorful frogs and sloths to elusive ocelots and even tarantulas.
Days 5-7: Manuel Antonio—exploring the beaches & rainforest

It’s time to slow down and soak in Costa Rica’s laid-back coastal lifestyle before heading home. Manuel Antonio is the perfect place to unwind, with expansive Pacific Coast beaches framed by lush rainforest. Keep an eye out for wildlife everywhere you go—you’re likely to spot monkeys swinging through the trees, along with hermit crabs, iguanas, and more. Spend your days exactly how you like: take a surf lesson, charter a private catamaran for snorkeling along the coast, or join a guided walk through Manuel Antonio National Park. While it’s the smallest national park in the country, it’s also one of the most popular—and for good reason. The park is home to two stunning, secluded beaches that are an absolute must-see and the perfect finale to your Costa Rica adventure.
Need to know
Book a guided walk if you want to see wildlife: Costa Rica’s animals are masters of camouflage, and it’s amazing what you’ll miss without a guide’s trained eye. They’ll spot everything from sloths to frogs you’d otherwise walk right past.
Pack layers: The mountains and cloud forests can be surprisingly chilly and misty, while the beaches are hot and humid. Lightweight layers will be your best friend.
The views are worth facing your fears. Whether it’s zip-lining, hanging bridges, or canyon rappelling, stepping outside your comfort zone is part of the magic, and you’ll feel incredibly accomplished afterward.
Comfortable shoes are a must. You’ll be walking on uneven trails, hanging bridges, and sandy beaches.
Expect rain and embrace it. Quick showers are common even in the “dry” season.
Leave extra time for travel days. Distances are short, but winding roads and scenic stops can make drives longer than expected.
Respect the wildlife. Look, don’t touch, and always keep a safe distance—this helps protect both you and the animals.
