Curator’s statement

Did you know Scandinavian countries are among the safest for solo women's travel? My first solo travel was to Scandinavia, specifically to Denmark, Finland and Norway. I traveled during my birthday, and it was the first time I felt so free-spirited while traveling. The trip was filled with rays of sunshine (literally because the sun is up from 4:30am to 10pm), and my first stop was in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Things to do in Copenhagen, Denmark

Nyhavn is a picturesque 17th-century waterfront known for its vibrant colored houses, historic wooden ships, and lively atmosphere.

Photography Worthy

Nyhavn: Take a stroll or bike along Nyhavn, where you can find not only colorful buildings, but be greeted by the sounds of jazz and the sights of pavement cafes and the sweet scent of Danish pastries. During Christmas, Nyhavn is filled with Christmas market shops and decorated stalls and twinkling lights. It’s the perfect setting for both summer and winter holidays in Copenhagen.

Christiansborg Palace: A home to kings and queens, Christiansborg Palace is housed with decorated tapestries, gold and vibrant designs painted from floor to ceiling. Get a tour ticket to tour this royal premise or even a spooky tour, complete with sounds and models, where you can discover underneath the palace, that includes a wall dated to the Middle Ages, and a trip to the castle’s former kitchen.

Gardens

Rosenborg Castle Gardens: Sometimes you just want to slow down the pace and take a breather. Rosenborg Garden is one of Copenhagen’s famous parks. You will find a rose garden, a symmetrical Renaissance Garden and numerous neoclassic and iconic statues and sculptures throughout. Sunbathe, picnic or just grab a pastry and sit on a bench and enjoy the view.

Architecture

Rundetårn: This high red brick tower was built in 1642 as an astronomical observatory. You can have a great view from the top platform, but it will require you to climb up some steep ramps, definitely not for mobility-challenged individuals, but worth the sight.

Frederik's Church: Also known as The Marble Church, this church is the prime focal point in the Frederiksstaden district. Those who can walk up the steps to the dome will have an enjoyable view of the city. It is one of the biggest walkable church domes in Scandinavia.

Family & Kid-Friendly

Tivoli Garden: Not only is this a beautiful garden that is surrounded by Chinese pagodas, Japanese-styled water streams, but it is also an amusement park for children. From rides, games, musicals, ballet and major concerts, there is always something happening here!

Little Mermaid: Did you say ‘Little Mermaid’? Yes, it is indeed the famous fairytale about a mermaid who gives up everything to be united with a young, handsome price on land. Little Mermaid is also next to a park, which makes it very family friendly for young little ones to stroll and run around.

Day Trips

Kronborg Castle, is located in a town of Helsingør, Denmark, it is the actual castle that Shakespeare set Hamlet in.
