Day 1: Carmel’s storybook vibe

Ease into Carmel’s storybook vibe and cozy dining scene to start off your trip. If you arrive in time for lunch, head to Nora's. Then wander the charming streets and browse local shops:

  • Somewhere—stylish coastal lifestyle boutique.

  • Olivier by the Sea—olive oils and gourmet treats.

  • House of Cardoon—modern coastal décor.

  • Carmel Honey Bee Company—sample delicious local honey.

Stop by Carmel Bay Roasters for coffee or Carmel Bakery for a scoop to enjoy while strolling. Head down Ocean Ave to the beach and take a walk along the shoreline. Enjoy dinner at Casanova, known for its romantic patio, handmade pasta, and European farmhouse charm.

Day 2: Vineyards

From vineyard charm to ocean views, enjoy the best of both worlds today! Drive 20 minutes inland to Carmel Valley for a relaxed wine tasting at a couple of spots. There are many, but here are two to try:

  • Folktale Winery—sparkling rosé in a fairytale courtyard setting.

  • De Tierra Vineyards—great sparkling options and laid-back atmosphere.

There are also many other tasting rooms in Carmel-by the-Sea. For example, Silvestri Tasting Room offers lovely small-lot wines with interesting music which ties in with its decor as it is owned by a film composer.

Enjoy lunch at Folktale Winery’s garden café or return to town for Aw Shucks Oysters for fresh seafood and a fun vibe. Another option is Stationaery for all-day brunch.

Visit Mission Ranch (Clint Eastwood’s historic property) to see the grazing sheep and enjoy a drink with ocean and mountain views. Then stop by nearby Carmel Mission Basilica, a Spanish mission with lovely architecture, serene gardens, and a glimpse into California’s rich cultural heritage.

Dine at Vesuvio for modern Italian cuisine in a lively atmosphere.

Day 3: A scenic farewell

This day is about scenic drives, oceanfront dining, and one last taste of Carmel. Start with a light breakfast at Rise + Roam featuring coffee, pastries, and incredible homemade granola. Drive the iconic 17-Mile Drive through Pebble Beach, stopping at:

  • Lone Cypress—Carmel’s most photographed tree.

  • Cypress Point Lookout for coastal cliffs, birds, and seals.

  • Fan Shell Beach Lookout for beautiful ocean views.

Stop for lunch at The Bench, overlooking Pebble Beach’s 18th green with stunning views and a casual-chic menu. Relax afterward with a drink at Pebble Beach Market, where Adirondack chairs face the golf course and ocean.

Return to Carmel Village for final browsing at Carmel Bay Company, Carmel Classics, or Thinker Toys if you’re with kids or would like to pick up some souvenirs. Wrap up your trip with dinner at La Bicyclette, a beloved spot with wood-fired pizza and a warm, European flair.

Need to know

If you stay longer, add these amazing stops to your trip:

  • Refuge Day Spa: A serene hydrothermal spa experience in Carmel Valley. Think plunge pools, saunas, and total tranquility (they have a no phone and silence policy, which was lovely).

  • Point Lobos State Reserve: A nearby nature reserve with breathtaking coastal trails and sea lion sightings.

  • Big Sur: A stunning coastal drive with dramatic cliffs, hidden beaches, and dining at iconic spots like Nepenthe.

  • Monterey: Explore Cannery Row, sip craft beer with ocean views, or spend the afternoon at the world-famous Monterey Bay Aquarium.

  • Pacific Grove: Another charming seaside town known for its Victorian homes, tide pools, and scenic Lover’s Point Park.
