Day 1: Welcome & coastal kickoff

Once you're settled into your room, head over to La Jolla Shores for a gentle beach day. Kids can splash, build sandcastles, or try beginner-friendly kayaking.
Lunch is casual at one of the many local restaurants, like The Taco Stand or 858 Burger. After lunch, take a stroll along the La Jolla Coast Walk Trail or maybe visit the Children's Pool.
End the day with dinner at Duke's La Jolla for Hawaiian-inspired dishes and ocean views, the perfect way to decompress from traveling.
Day 2: Discovery & wildlife

Start the day by visiting the San Diego Zoo in Balboa Park—plan to hit the gorilla tropics, koalas, and pandas first. Lunch is either at one of the zoo's dining options or maybe a picnic in one of the Balboa Park gardens.
After lunch, plan on visiting some of the interactive museums located throughout Balboa Park. My personal favorite is the San Diego Model Railroad Museum.
Once all the museums have closed shop by 4 pm, head over to Old Town for dinner at Flor's Farm to Table. There are tons of little shops and live performers in Old Town, so take a stroll after dinner and enjoy the sights.
Day 3: Amusement park adventure

Option 1: Sesame Place (for families with kids younger than 4)
Arrive early to beat the crowds and head to your private cabana. Spend the day enjoying the family-friendly attractions and character meet-and-greets. Leave mid- to late afternoon and grab a casual early dinner, then head back to the hotel for some much-needed rest (especially for the littles).
Option 2: Belmont Park (for families with kids 4 and older)
Opened in 1925, the iconic Belmont Park offers a huge variety of attractions for the whole family. You can spend the entire day here riding as many times as you want with the Ride and Play Pass, which also grants access to attractions like zip-lining and mini golf. You can also check out Mission Beach, which is right behind the park.
Day 4: Beach & water fun

Drive or catch a train up to Carlsbad for a quieter beach day or water play at LEGOLAND California. Pack a picnic for the beach or enjoy one of the dining options inside LEGOLAND.
Before you head back to San Diego, check out the Carlsbad Lagoon Recreation Area, which has jet-ski, paddleboard, kayak, and boat rentals.
End the day with dinner in the Gaslamp Quarter, enjoying fan favorites like Tacos El Gordo or Mr. Moto Pizza.
Need to know
Transportation
Renting a car can be helpful, but you don't strictly need one unless you have children in car seats. Otherwise, San Diego has plenty of options for public transit.
Weather
Mornings and evenings can be chilly, even in summer. Thin layers will help keep the whole gang comfortable.
