Things to do in Annecy

The curvy streets of Annecy’s Old Town invite you to discover what is around each corner. Whether it’s a charming shop or a gelato counter or maybe a historic church, Annecy offers something for everyone.
Strolling Lake Annecy’s waterfront offers views of the Alps, where snowy peaks meet the usually blue skies. You might spy paragliders drifting through the mountain tops, and you are sure to see people enjoying the water. Live like the locals and plan a picnic in the shady Jardins des l’Europe.
Speaking of locals, have you considered visiting a castle or palace? Annecy has its very castle dating to the 12th century, and it now serves as a contemporary art museum. Just outside of town is the fairy tale-like Chateau du Montrottier. And nearby Château de Menthon is said to have inspired Sleeping Beauty’s castle!
There is no shortage of boating opportunities! Take a tour in a classic wooden boat, dine on the water during an evening sail, or rent a SUP or pedal boat to explore the lake on your own. Whichever you choose, you can’t go wrong on beautiful Lake Annecy.
Take a marathon bike ride around the lake! Bicycles -- both electric and traditional -- are available for rent in Annecy, and it takes about three hours to circumnavigate the lake.
For those wishing to explore outside of Annecy, enjoy a day trip to the Gorges du Fier for a spectacular hike suspended above the ground. Interested in more extended hiking trails? Countless trails are available on all sides of the lake, and while parking is extremely limited, many are accessible by public transportation or taxi.
Maybe you would prefer to try canyoneering or paragliding? Register for an early-morning departure from Annecy to beat the heat of the sunny summer days. Or do you prefer winter sports? Visit in the winter for spectacular skiing, sledding, and other slope-side fun!
Places to eat & drink in Annecy

The Michelin-starred Rontonde des Trésoms offers amazing flavors of the region with an astounding panoramic view from the terrace of the Les Trésoms Lake and Spa Resort.
La Bastille À Raoul is nestled along the canal, just across from the Palais de l’Isle and offers regional specialties, like raclette and chocolate fondant.
L’Esquisse is another Michelin-starred restaurant, right in Annecy’s Old Town. Ask for a table upstairs!
On a sunny day, locally made soft-serve ice cream from Glaces Maison hits the spot! For an extra special treat, try a swirl of Chocolat Suisse and Caramel Beurre Salé.
The most casual and the most authentic dining experience in Annecy is a picnic along the shore of Lake Annecy. For a real treat, stock up during the Sunday Market or at a local grocer, like Aux Quatre Saisons!
