Advisor - A Romantic 5-Day St. Croix Getaway: Beaches, Buck Island & Island Charm
Curator’s statement

St. Croix offers a beautiful blend of Caribbean beaches, rich history, and relaxed island charm that makes it perfect for a romantic getaway or honeymoon. What I love most about the island is how easy it is to explore—you can experience beaches, towns, and scenic drives all within a short distance. From snorkeling crystal-clear waters to enjoying local rum and coastal sunsets, every day feels both relaxed and memorable. For couples looking for a destination that feels authentic and less crowded, St. Croix is a wonderful choice.

Day 1: Arrival & settling into island life

Arrive in St. Croix and settle into your hotel before easing into the island’s relaxed pace. I recommend heading into Christiansted for your first afternoon—the waterfront boardwalk is the perfect place to take in the views and start your trip slowly.

Spend some time walking through the colorful streets, browsing small shops, and stopping for a drink or light bite. The atmosphere is welcoming and laid-back, making it easy to unwind after travel.

End the evening with a waterfront dinner and enjoy your first Caribbean sunset.

Day 2: Buck Island catamaran & snorkeling

Big Beard's Adventure Tours @bellapoggioevents

Start your day with one of the most memorable experiences on the island—a catamaran excursion to Buck Island Reef National Monument, known for its crystal-clear water and vibrant marine life.

For this experience, I highly recommend Big Beard’s Adventure Tours. They were incredibly welcoming from the moment we arrived, and the entire crew made the experience feel fun, relaxed, and well-organized. It’s the kind of excursion that works for everyone, whether you’re new to snorkeling or more experienced.

Snorkeling at Buck Island is truly a highlight. The water is calm and incredibly clear, and the underwater trail makes it easy to explore the reef while seeing a variety of marine life.

After snorkeling, most tours include time to relax on Buck Island’s beach. The bright turquoise water and soft white sand make this feel like a true Caribbean postcard moment.

Day 3: Scenic drive & beach exploration

Kingshill at Cane Bay Beach @bellapoggioevents

One of the best ways to experience St. Croix is by renting a car and exploring the island. The island is only about 22 miles long, so it’s easy to see a lot in one day.

Driving allows you to discover quieter beaches, scenic overlooks, and different parts of the island at your own pace. Just keep in mind that driving is on the left side of the road, which can take a little getting used to but becomes comfortable quickly.

Spend the day stopping at beaches, taking photos, and enjoying the slower pace. Resorts like The Buccaneer and Carambola Beach Resort are also great places to relax if you prefer a more structured beach day.

Day 4: Local culture, distillery experience & Frederiksted

Sion Farm Distillery @bellapoggioevents

Spend the day exploring more of St. Croix’s culture, starting with a visit to Sion Farm Distillery. This is such a unique experience on the island—they produce vodka using breadfruit, a local Caribbean staple, which gives their spirits a distinct and memorable flavor.

One of the things I loved most about visiting Sion Farm was how immersive the experience felt. After learning about the distilling process, you can stay and enjoy drinks or a meal at their on-site restaurant. It’s a relaxed setting where you can try their vodka in different cocktails while taking in the atmosphere.

After your visit, head over to Frederiksted, a quieter and more laid-back town on the west side of the island. The waterfront and pier are especially beautiful in the late afternoon, making it a great place to walk, explore, and slow down for the evening.

This part of the island feels more local and less busy, which makes it a nice contrast to the earlier days of your trip.

Day 5: Relaxation & departure

On your final day, keep things slow and relaxed. Enjoy a quiet morning by the beach or pool, take a walk along the shoreline, or have breakfast with an ocean view.

These last moments are often some of the most memorable—simply enjoying the calm atmosphere before heading home.

Depart St. Croix feeling refreshed, relaxed, and already thinking about your next trip.

Need to know

St. Croix is a great option for U.S. travelers since it is a U.S. territory, which means no passport is required for U.S. residents. This makes it an especially convenient choice for a Caribbean getaway without the additional travel logistics.

Renting a car is highly recommended, as it allows you to explore the island at your own pace. The island is only about 22 miles long, making it easy to see multiple areas in a short amount of time. Just keep in mind that driving is on the left side of the road, which can take a little getting used to at first.

The island has a more relaxed and authentic feel compared to larger Caribbean destinations, which is part of its charm. It’s perfect for couples who want a mix of beach time, light exploration, and local experiences without feeling overly busy.

One place I always recommend stopping is La Reine Chicken Shack—the food is amazing and it’s a great way to experience a more local, authentic side of the island. It’s the kind of spot that adds personality to your trip beyond the resort experience.

Between the beaches, snorkeling excursions, cultural experiences, and slower pace, St. Croix offers a well-rounded and memorable getaway for couples looking for something a little different.
