Advisor - A Couple's Guide to Puerto Vallarta
Curator’s statement

We ate, drank, and adventured our way through Puerto Vallarta! This place was perfect for a first anniversary celebration. There is so much to do and it’s all super centrally located so you can get around simply by walking or taking a quick taxi or Uber. Highly recommend for those looking for a couple’s trip.

Things to do in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

Majahuitas

Beach clubs are a must here. Our favorite two were:

  • Majahuitas: Only accessible by boat, this beach club hosts world-class DJs for an unforgettable day party. Explore, relax, and reserve ahead, including booking a party boat for transport.

  • Anima: A bit tricky to reach by boat but well worth it. Enjoy eating, drinking, and dancing until 8 pm. Reserve in advance, coordinate a water taxi via WhatsApp, and arrive on time. Splurge on a beachside daybed near the DJ for the best experience.

Other areas to explore:

  • Malecon Boardwalk: Pedestrian-only boardwalk filled with oceanfront restaurants, tequila bars, vendors, shops, and nightclubs.

  • Zona Romántica: Trendy neighborhood, popular with Canadian expats and the LGBTQ+ community, with tons of bars, restaurants, shops, cafes, and art. Nonstop action no matter the day of the week.

  • Vallarta Art Walk: Every Wednesday, galleries open their doors and display their art. You can still explore during the week and there is no pressure to purchase. You can just explore at your leisure.

Places to eat & drink in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

Mezcal Y Sal

Where to eat:

  • Oyster Grill de La Docena: Right on the boardwalk, this place was so good we went twice. Order the grilled artichoke and of course, oysters.

  • Café des Artistes: Elegant tasting menus with a-la-carte options, live music, & a garden terrace in the historic art district. The best espresso martini I’ve ever had!

  • La Madalena: Where the food matches the vibe—this place was incredible! DJ, tableside cocktails and tequila, and fresh amazing food.

  • Le Kliff: Off the beaten path, amazing sunset with ocean views, perfect for celebrating something special.

Where to grab a drink:

  • Bar la Playa: Fav drink spot. Small, intimate spot off a busy walkway with great cocktails and lots of wine.

  • Mezcal Y Sal: Each drink is a work of art, beautifully presented, and just as delicious as it looks.

  • Daiquiri Dick’s: A PV landmark right on Los Muertos Beach.

  • El Sofiador: This place has it all: drinks, DJs, American sports, rooftop patio, and pool tables.

  • YamBak PV: A hidden gem that’s part pizza place, part brewery, part dance party.

  • El Colibri Cocktail Bar: Half a block from the boardwalk, speakeasy featuring jungle vibes, great cocktails, and live music.

  • Blind Tiger: 1920s’ themed speakeasy with craft cocktails and small bites.

  • El Tasting Room Bar & Liquor Store: Cocktail Bar offering tequila and agave tastings plus a selection of craft beers.

  • Terrazo House Bar: Open-air terrace overlooking the boardwalk—extensive drink menu and great music.

Need to know

Bring local currency with you as taxis will not take credit cards. They also don’t usually have change.

It feels very safe walking around. But of course, you’re in a foreign country, so always be attentive.
