Zebras in the Safari
Curator’s statement

While many view Nairobi as an overnight pitstop location en route to safari destinations throughout Kenya and beyond, Nairobi is a diverse, energetic city with tons to do. I've been lucky enough to visit multiple times (my old college roommate lives there) and explored through the eyes of a local.

Things to do in Nairobi

Nairobi elephants

Nairobi National Park

Rent a car and take yourself on a self-game drive only 15 min from center city. Take in the sights of lions, giraffes and zebras with the skyline in the background.

Karura Forest

A hidden escape in the city — explore on a hike and end at the River Cafe for lunch/breakfast.

The Links at Langata

Stop by the Links for a collection of local boutiques featuring artisan goods, perfect for souvenirs or gifts to bring home.

Ngono Road

If you’re anything like me and basket obsessed, stop by this street of vendors selling locally crafted woven baskets. Thousands to chose from!

Places to eat & drink in Nairobi

Yummy food

Cultiva — Farm-to-table, local and sustainable cuisine. Gorgeous retreat area where you can eat among the farm right in the heart of Nairobi.

Beit et salam — This restaurant looks like it could fit in LA, with stunning, moody vibes, craft cocktails and food inspired by the continent. You need the corn ribs!!

River Cafe — Located inside Karura forest, stop here for breakfast after a hike in the forest.

Mambo Italiano - In a city not known for it’s fresh pasta, hit-up Mambo Italiano.
