Advisor - Best of Istanbul: 3 Day Itinerary
Curator’s statement

Istanbul is truly one of my favourite cities in the world! Walking through the streets, you can move from breathtaking Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque to the buzzing alleys of the Grand Bazaar and then sit down at the hip cafés of Galata all in one day. What makes it special to me is the seamless blend of history, religions, and modern life, where ancient empires left their mark while the city still pulses with vibrant contemporary energy. I also love that you use all your senses when visiting this beautiful city.

Day 1: Sultanahmet & old city wonders

@travelwithladystephanie

Morning: Start at the Hagia Sophia, followed by the Blue Mosque. Walk over to the Basilica Cistern.

Lunch: Balıkçı Sabahattin (classic seafood in a historic wooden house).

Afternoon: Explore the Topkapi Palace, then wander through the Spice Market. Stop for coffee at Cup of Joy.

Evening: Dinner at Beyti, famous for its traditional Turkish kebabs in a refined setting. Or Rana, perched about 90 meters above the Bosphorus, offers sweeping panoramic views that include Dolmabahçe Palace, Ortaköy Mosque, and the strait itself—perfect for sunset and night-time viewing.

Day 2: Shopping & Bosphorus magic

Grand Bazaar

Morning: Shop at Grand Bazaar, A La Turca Kilimanjaro shop, and Bedesten Khan (great for textiles, antiques, and unique crafts).

Lunch: Avlu (modern Turkish cuisine in a chic courtyard setting).

Afternoon: Private Bosphorus Cruise, gliding past palaces and waterfront mansions.

Evening: Dinner at Zuma, offering stylish Japanese dishes with a Bosphorus view. End with cocktails overlooking the city at the Four Seasons Hotel Istanbul bar.

Day 3: Palaces & local flavors

Morning: Visit the lavish Dolmabahçe Palace.

Lunch: Choose a light bite or Turkish meze nearby (optional return to Cup of Joy for coffee).

Afternoon: Leisurely stroll or last-minute shopping stops back at the Grand Bazaar or boutique shops.

Evening: Farewell dinner at Balıkçı Sabahattin (if not already tried) or return to your favorite from earlier.

Need to know

Tip: The Mandarin Oriental has a lovely daily afternoon tea offering, which allows you to taste a variety of Turkish teas and coffees with traditional sweet and savoury snacks.
