Day 1: Arrive & Sultanahmet: first impressions

Arrive in Istanbul and check into the Adamar Hotel, perfectly positioned just steps from Sultanahmet Square. After settling in, step outside to take in your first impressions—the cobbled streets, café tables, and the silhouettes of domes and minarets immediately signal the city’s deep history.
Begin with an unhurried walk through Sultanahmet Square. Start at Hagia Sophia, where the vast dome, shimmering mosaics, and layers of Byzantine and Ottoman history create an awe-inspiring introduction to Istanbul. Continue to the Blue Mosque, whose cascading domes and blue Iznik tiles offer a moment of calm amid the lively square. Pause briefly at the German Fountain, then wander through the surrounding gardens, watching locals and travelers mingle as the pace of the city slows.
As dusk settles, remain in the neighborhood and make your way to Deraliye Ottoman Cuisine, just a few minutes on foot. Here, dine on refined Ottoman dishes inspired by palace recipes—slow-cooked lamb, delicately spiced vegetables, and traditional desserts—served in a warm, intimate setting that feels both historic and welcoming.
After dinner, stroll back toward your hotel as the monuments glow under evening lights. The quiet streets and softly illuminated skyline provide a peaceful close to your first day in Istanbul.
Day 2: Sultanahmet in depth: cisterns, palaces & hammam ritual

Begin the morning near your hotel with a relaxed Turkish breakfast at Café Rumist, a cozy neighborhood spot in Sultanahmet. Enjoy a traditional serpme kahvaltı—fresh bread, cheeses, olives, honey, eggs, and endless tea—setting an unhurried tone for the day ahead.
From breakfast, walk to the Basilica Cistern, descending into its cool, atmospheric depths where rows of columns rise from still water. The hushed echoes and the mysterious Medusa heads create a contemplative start to your exploration.
Continue on foot to Topkapi Palace, the former heart of the Ottoman Empire. Wander through its courtyards, explore the imperial kitchens and treasury, and visit Hagia Irene and the Tiled Kiosk. Pause often in the gardens and terraces overlooking the Bosphorus, allowing the palace’s scale and history to unfold gradually.
By mid-to-late afternoon, make your way downhill to Cağaloğlu Hammam. Inside, surrender to a traditional hammam ritual—warm marble, enveloping steam, a kese exfoliation, and a soothing foam massage. The experience restores both body and mind after a full day of walking and discovery.
Day 3: Mosques, markets & city views

Begin early at the Grand Bazaar, wandering through its lively, labyrinthine lanes filled with spices, carpets, ceramics, and jewelry. Take your time exploring, letting the vibrant colors, aromas, and sounds of the market fully awaken your senses.
Step outside near the bazaar’s upper gates to visit Nuruosmaniye Mosque, whose light-filled interior and Baroque-inspired details offer a graceful transition from the bustling market into the serenity of Istanbul’s religious architecture.
Walk uphill to Şehzade Mosque, one of architect Sinan’s most harmonious creations. Its elegant proportions and tranquil courtyard provide a peaceful pause before the afternoon’s centerpiece. Stop nearby for lunch at Şehzade Cağ Kebap, a local favorite serving thin slices of slow-roasted lamb and traditional Turkish sides. The relaxed, unpretentious atmosphere makes it perfect for recharging before continuing the day.
After lunch, continue uphill to the magnificent Süleymaniye Mosque, Istanbul’s skyline-defining masterpiece. Wander the courtyard, enjoy sweeping views of the Golden Horn, and visit the tomb garden of Sultan Süleyman the Magnificent and Hürrem Sultan.
On the way down, pass the Valens Aqueduct, a striking reminder of Byzantine engineering, and take photos or simply pause to appreciate its scale. End the day with tea or dessert nearby, watching golden light settle across the historic cityscape.
Day 4: Spice routes & the Golden Horn

Begin your day at the Spice Bazaar, letting the vivid colors, fragrant aromas, and bustling energy awaken your senses. Wander through the lively market stalls, sampling teas, spices, dried fruits, and local treats as you explore at a relaxed pace. Step next door into the New Mosque, where the calm interior and graceful light provide a peaceful contrast to the vibrant bazaar outside.
A short stroll brings you to the Rüstem Pasha Mosque, a small architectural gem known for its dazzling Iznik tilework. From Rüstem Pasha, enjoy a gentle walk along the Golden Horn waterfront, passing historic piers, ferries, and waterfront cafés. Stop to take in the views and the relaxed rhythm of this scenic area, and visit the striking Bulgarian St. Stephen Church, an iron‑clad landmark set by the water.
As afternoon becomes evening, head to Mega Lüfer Yachts and board your sunset dinner cruise along the Bosphorus Strait, a wonderful way to see the city from the water as daylight fades into night. Onboard you’ll enjoy a three‑hour cruise with dinner, live music, and entertainment while gliding past iconic sights.
The warm glow of sunset against Istanbul’s skyline and the gentle pace of the water make this a memorable and relaxed way to end your day, combining scenic views, good food, and cultural ambiance all in one. After the cruise, you’ll be dropped back near your hotel area for a calm conclusion to the evening.
Day 5: Byzantine Constantinople

Begin the morning with breakfast at Sade Kahve, a cozy café near Sultanahmet known for its freshly baked pastries, traditional Turkish breads, along with strong Turkish tea or freshly brewed coffee. The calm, intimate atmosphere makes it an ideal spot to ease into the day and fuel up for walking through historic neighborhoods.
After breakfast, head to the Kariye Mosque. Spend time admiring the mosaics and frescoes, rich with color and intricate storytelling, offering a peaceful, contemplative start to your exploration.
From there, take a gentle stroll to Merdivenli Yokuş Evleri, a historic neighborhood with narrow, stepped streets and charming Ottoman houses. The area provides a quiet, picturesque glimpse of traditional Istanbul life, perfect for wandering and taking photos. Continue toward the Palace of the Porphyrogenitus and explore sections of the Walls of Constantinople, imagining centuries of defense and the historical weight of the city.
Conclude the afternoon at Mihrimah Sultan Mosque, where sunlight streams through the windows and illuminates the interior, offering a serene space for reflection before returning toward the city center.
Day 6: Palaces, the Bosphorus & modern life

Start your morning at Dolmabahçe Palace, where Ottoman tradition meets European opulence. Wander through the grand staircases, gilded ceilings, and crystal chandeliers, soaking in the palace’s grandeur and sweeping views of the Bosphorus.
After exploring the palace, take a leisurely walk along the Bosphorus waterfront toward Ortaköy Mosque, framed beautifully by the water and the Bosphorus Bridge—a perfect spot for photos and atmosphere.
For lunch, stop at Kiyi Restaurant, a renowned seafood spot along the Bosphorus near Ortaköy. Enjoy fresh fish, meze, and traditional Turkish dishes while taking in the water views. The relaxed waterfront setting makes it an ideal pause, letting you savor both the flavors and the scenery before continuing your afternoon.
After lunch, stroll along Istiklal Caddesi, Istanbul’s lively pedestrian street. Pass arcades, cafés, bookstores, and stop at Çiçek Pasajı for a brief coffee or dessert break. Conclude your day at Little Hagia Sophia, a serene echo of the city’s earliest monumental architecture, providing a calm and reflective end to your Istanbul adventure.
