Curator’s statement

Known for its quaint beaches and charming streets, Cascais is a perfect 1-day side trip to take when visiting Lisbon. Hop on a quick 40 minute suburban train ride along the coast and enjoy this adorable Portuguese gem for the day. And if the weather is nice, make sure to bring a beach towel and wear a swimsuit under your clothes! Pro Tip: Make sure to sit on the left side of the carriage when departing from Lisbon and the right side when leaving Cascais for the best views!

Stroll the Streets

Once you arrive at the Cascais Train Station, head towards the McDonald’s patio and stroll the shop-filled cobblestone streets of this beachside commercial area of Cascais. You’ll find plenty of food and shopping options here.

Praia da Rainha

Check out this picturesque beach just steps from the train station. Take a dip or lounge in the sand if weather permits!

Praia da Ribeira

The iconic Cascais beach you’ve probably seen in pictures. Just a gorgeous spot, now with a ferris heel to help enjoy the ocean view.

Boca do Inferno

A popular attraction in Cascais features a chasm in the cliffs where the ocean water forcefully strikes the rocky walls. There is also an indoor market filled with local artisanal offerings, a few food options and a public restroom.

Casa da Guia

An old beachside manor transformed into a collection of shops and restaurants is the perfect stop on your Cascais adventure. Pro Tip: If you don’t mind a good walk, I highly recommend walking along Avenida Rei Humberto II de Itália. It’s about 40-50 minutes from the Cascais Train Station to Casa da Guia along the coast. You’ll hit most things on this guide on the way there and a lot of scenic ocean views along the way.

Places to eat & drink in Cascais, Portugal

Food on table in a restaurant.

Hotel Baía

If you just can’t get enough of the charming view of Praia da Ribeira, grab a glass of wine or a cocktail on the Hotel Baía patio!

Furnas do Guincho

Looking for a taste of luxury in Cascais? This gorgeous cliffside restaurant serves some of the best seafood in Portugal. Furnas do Guincho was one of my late uncle’s (long-time Cascais resident) favorite spots to take us when we visited him, so it holds a special place in my heart!

Majestic Burguer

If you’re looking for something more casual that still provides amazing flavor and quality, try this burger spot located in the Casa da Guia area. These super juicy burgers will definitely replenish your energy if you’ve been walking. My personal favorite is the Egg x Bacon Burger!
