Things to do in Rhode Island

  • Lobster Rolls: New England is known for their super fresh and plentiful Lobster Rolls in a perfectly toasted buttered split roll. Make sure you grab one in or around Newport.

  • Along with Lobster Rolls, New England is also known for their oysters. There are endless oyster bars to choose from, so grab a seat while they shuck your oysters in front of you. Also make sure to try an oyster shooter (if you are 21+) which is a fresh oyster in a shot glass filled with bloody mary mix and vodka!

  • Walk Newport's famous cliff walk along the ocean: This trail is around 3.5 miles long and follows the coastline, giving you amazing views of the ocean.

  • Have a relaxing beach day at Easton's Beach, which is a public beach with a fantastic snack bar featuring amazing lobster rolls.

  • Visit Newport's beautiful historic mansions — Book a Newport mansion tour and step back in time to see how the super-rich used to spend their summers. The most famous is The Breakers, which was owned by the Vanderbilt family.

  • Visit the International Tennis Hall of Fame: The museum at the Tennis Hall of Fame will be reopening after a recent renovation in May 2025. The museum highlights the history of tennis through the years.

  • Take a sunset boat ride: Most of these leave out of Newport Harbor, which is smack in the center of town with lots of bars and restaurants right on the water. Pro tip: It gets chilly on the water, so make sure to bring a jacket!

Need to know

During the spring months it's definitely still a bit chilly at night so make sure to bring layers! There are tons of cute shops to stroll in and out of in downtown Newport. If staying outside Newport at the Ocean House, it is worth visiting Matunuck Oyster Bar for a special meal.
