Advisor - Fall for Nantucket: From Labor Day Weekends to October Getaways
Curator’s statement

Nantucket is the perfect Labor Day weekend escape, offering the best of late-summer charm without the peak-season crowds. With warm days, cool nights, and over 80 miles of beaches, it's ideal for biking, sailing, beachcombing, or just relaxing. The island buzzes with local flavor—from Cisco Brewery’s live music and food trucks to the vibrant Farmers & Artisans Market—while boutiques roll out end-of-season sales. Rich in history, Nantucket’s cobblestone streets, historic landmarks, and preserved architecture create a uniquely charming backdrop. It’s also a great time for wellness activities like yoga and surfing, and as the summer winds down, prices ease up while most restaurants and shops remain open, making it a seamless and scenic way to close out the season.

Places to eat & drink in Nantucket

The Sandbar at Jetties Beach

  • CRU Nantucket Oyster Bar
Renowned for its stunning harbor views, raw bar, and seafood-forward menu—don’t miss the chilled lobster roll on toasted brioche or the “Crucomber” cocktail. It’s a chic spot perfect for a scenic dinner or a luxury lunch.

  • Galley Beach
A historic beachfront gem, originally a 1920s clam shack, now celebrated for its elegant coastal cuisine and sunset views. Try the Nantucket lobster with sweet corn and fennel—paired with a drink from their 5,000-bottle wine cellar.

  • Topper’s at The Wauwinet
If you're up for a short trip outside town, Topper’s offers an elevated dining experience with multi-course tasting menus, local oysters (harvested just 300 yards away!), and breathtaking bay and ocean views. A refined choice for a memorable evening.

  • The Nautilus
This intimate, globally inspired spot is loved by locals for its creative seafood small plates—think blue crab fried rice or tempura East Coast tacos. It’s a great pick for adventurous eaters, though booking ahead is wise.

  • Lemon Press
A bright, casual café ideal for breakfast or lunch, serving fresh, organic fare—from Persian-influenced breakfasts to smoothies, açaí bowls, and inventive light dishes. Perfect to fuel up before a day of exploring.

Need to know

Getting to Nantucket is pretty simple—you can either fly into Nantucket Memorial Airport (ACK) or hop on a ferry from Hyannis (about an hour on the fast ferry or just over two hours if you bring a car). There are also seasonal ferries from New York City and New Bedford, but most people skip the car and get around by bike or shuttle once they’re there.

The best time to visit really depends on your vibe: summer (June through August) is peak season, perfect for beach days and nightlife, though it’s busy and pricey. I personally love the shoulder months—May, September, and October—because the weather’s still warm, it’s way more relaxed, and the crowds thin out. Spring is also lovely if you’re into quieter trips, blooming flowers, and exploring at your own pace.
