Things to do in Arenal & Punta Cacique, Costa Rica

Sky Trek ziplining:

What it is: A thrilling combination of gondola ride, zip lines, and hanging bridges high above the rainforest.

Why it’s great: Offers some of the best views of Arenal Volcano and Lake Arenal, while mixing adrenaline and nature.

Pure Trek Canyoning:

What it is: Guided rappelling down waterfalls in the rainforest, run by the highly-rated outfitter Pure Trek.

Why it’s great: Professional guides, top-notch safety, and an unforgettable way to immerse yourself in Costa Rica’s rugged landscape. Great for active families or adventurous couples.

Hanging Bridges (Mistico Park):

What it is: A series of suspension bridges and trails weaving through the rainforest canopy.

Why it’s great: A must-do for nature lovers—but the experience is vastly better with a guide. A naturalist will help you spot sloths, monkeys, toucans, and tiny frogs that you’d likely miss on your own. Without a guide, it’s more of a scenic walk through the forest.

Club Rio Adventure Center (Springs Resort):

What it is: A riverside adventure hub offering tubing, kayaking, hot springs, rock climbing, horseback riding, and animal encounters.

Why it’s great: Everything is in one place, perfect for families. You can pick multiple activities in a single day, making it easy to customize to your group.

River tubing and kayaking:

Fun for kids and adults, with the right mix of excitement and safety.

Animal encounters:

See rescued wildlife and learn about conservation.

Rock climbing:

On-site walls offer active fun for kids.

Sunset horseback ride:

Scenic and family-friendly, with sweeping volcano and valley views—a peaceful way to end an adventure-packed day.

Jet skiing – Punta Cacique (near Waldorf Astoria)

What it is: Independent rental operation at a nearby beach, not affiliated with the resort.

Why it’s great: A thrilling way to explore Costa Rica’s Pacific coastline and take in the turquoise waters from a different perspective.

Insider tip: Bring cash for payment, as they are not connected to the Waldorf and do not charge through the hotel.
